This article shows you how to use windows azure companion, a new PHP development tool for Windows Azure, which is concise and easy to understand. It will definitely brighten your eyes. I hope you can get something through the detailed introduction of this article.

Microsoft recently announced a new tool, Windows Azure Companion. Updated Windows Azure Tools for Eclipse for PHP and Windows Azure Command-line Tools for PHP, and presented a second version of Windows Azure SDK for PHP at the Open Source India conference on September 19-21, all of which are aimed at PHP developers and administrators interested in deploying applications on Windows Azure.

Only Windows Azure Companion is a brand new tool, and the rest are newer or newer versions of old tools / SDK. Windows Azure Companion can be used to install PHP platform components (PHP runtime, extensions) or PHP Web applications on Azure.

Windows Azure Companion uses the Atom subscription feed as the configuration file, which contains the name and URL of the components required by the Web application you want to run. Vijay Rajagopalan, architect of Microsoft's Interoperability Strategy Division (Interoperability Strategy), said that early versions of Companion were mainly aimed at PHP, but it could be expanded to deploy "any open source component or application running in Windows Azure." Rajagopalan does not explain which non-PHP Web applications can be deployed to Azure, but it seems to be possible by editing subscription feeds and using Companion.

Windows Azure for Eclipse for PHP September CTP updated the Eclipse plug-in to support the enhancements in Windows Azure SDK 1.2 released in June 2010 and to prepare for the final release in November. The new features are:

◆ hosts PHP applications on SSL-enabled HTTP endpoints

◆ supports Windows Azure code templates in the PHP editor

◆ Windows Azure Diagnostics support

◆ integrates open source AppFabric SDK for PHP Developers

◆ supports execution of PHP scripts in Worker Role

Integration of ◆ SQL CRUD Application Wizard for PHP

◆ enhances the project file conversion function

◆ can manage application deployment

◆ can expose php.ini and PHP folders in Web Role applications

Support for ◆ Windows Azure Drive for PHP developers

◆ uses the account name for Storage Exploer

Windows Azure Command-line Tools for PHP allows administrators to package PHP applications and deploy them to Azure through the command line interface. The September version of CTP will add support for Web and Worker Role. This tool cannot take into account all deployment situations, and some still need to be solved by Companion.

Windows Azure SDK for PHP allows developers to take advantage of Azure's services-large file storage, tables, queues, etc.-in their applications. Some of the new features in this 2.0 release are:

◆ can call PHP classes of Windows Azure Blobs, Tables, and Queues functions (to complete CRUD operations)

◆ helper classes for HTTP transport, AuthN/AuthZ, REST, and error management

◆ manageability, facilities, and logging support

◆ supports storing PHP sessions in Azure Table Storage
