Managing virtual machines using VMware vSphere Client

Content: use VMware vSphere Client to manage VMware ESXi, including uploading iso image files, creating virtual machines, creating snapshots for virtual machines, and configuring virtual machines to start automatically with ESXi hosts!

Upload the operating system iso to ESXi storage.

(1) use VMware vSphere Client to connect to VMware ESXi

(2) check the summary information and other related information of the VMware ESXi host in the summary bar of the host.

(3) upload the iso of the operating system installation CD to the ESXi storage, purpose: easy to use, right-click at the memory datastore1 and select "Browse data Storage".

(4) Click "create a new folder" and enter the folder name ISO.

(5) enter the ISO directory, click upload File to this data store, and select upload File.

(6) browse the installation CD ISO file you use. I choose CentOS-6.5 64-bit operating system here.

(7) wait for the file to be uploaded, click OK if a warning message appears.

(8) check whether the file is uploaded successfully.

Create a client in VMware ESXi.

1. Click on the virtual machine, and right-click in the space to select the new virtual machine.

2. Select Custom

3. Enter the name of the virtual machine, where the CentOS 6.564-bit operating system will be installed.

4. Select the storage location of the virtual machine, and store the virtual machine in the built-in storage datastore1 of the ESXi host

5. Select the version of the virtual machine, and select version 8 here

6. Select the client operating system that will be installed as CentOS 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 (64 bits).

9. Configure the virtual network to be connected to the virtual machine and the type of network card of the virtual machine. VMware ESXi creates a virtual network named VM Network by default, and the network card of the virtual machine can choose the default E1000.

10. Select the model of SCSI controller, which defaults to LSI Logic parallelism.

11. Since this is the first time to create a virtual machine, there is no ready-made virtual hard disk, so select "create a new virtual disk".

12. Select the size and setting strategy of the virtual hard disk. The disk size is configured as 16GB Thin Provision. It is recommended to choose Thin Provisio (thin standby) for disk provisioning. I choose this option as Slim.

14. Select "Edit Virtual Machine Settings before completion" to change the configuration of the virtual machine, or after creating the virtual machine, right-click the name of the virtual machine and select "Edit Settings".

15. At CD/DVD drive 1, select the data storage ISO file for the device type, and browse to find the installation CD iso of CentOS 6.5 just uploaded in the iso directory where ESXi built-in datastore1 is stored.

16. Select "Connect when Power on"

Third, install the client in VMware ESXi

1. Right-click the virtual machine CentOS 6.564, select the power supply, turn on the power supply, and then select Open console.

2. The installation process of the client operating system is the same as on VMware Workstation.

3. When the mouse is inflexible, choose the keyboard.

4. After the client operating system is installed, it is recommended to install VMware Tools. I choose to install it here.

To ensure that the virtual machine can access the Internet before installation, the specific steps are as follows: (this is dynamic acquisition)

(1) modify the network card information

(2) change ONBOOT=no to ONBOOT=yes and quit saving.

(3) restart the network card

(4) testing, ping access to the external network is a success.

In the virtual machine console, select the virtual machine, client, and install / upgrade VMware Tools.

5. Click OK

6. The installation process of VMware Tools is different for different client operating systems. The following is the installation process of VMware Tools in CentOS 6.5. Step 8 and all other prompts can be entered!

Fourth, create a snapshot.

1. Snapshot: save the working state of the virtual machine, when there is a problem with the virtual machine, you can easily restore the virtual machine to its normal working state.

Shut down the virtual machine, right-click on the virtual machine CentOS 6.5-64, select the snapshot, and execute the snapshot.

3. To view the created snapshot, right-click on the virtual machine CentOS 6.5-64, and select Snapshot, Snapshot Manager. Click "go" to restore the state of the virtual machine snapshot.

Configure the client to start automatically with the ESXi host.

1. Click configure, and select attributes.

2, make relevant settings.

3. When VMware ESXi starts, the CentOS6.5-64 virtual machine will be started automatically
