A customer site environment is a virtualization platform composed of 9 servers. One physical server is installed with vCenter 5.1 and oracle 11g R2 database, and the other 8 servers form a Cluster under vCenter management. The following describes the installation process of vCenter in combination with oracle database.

installation steps

1. Find the sso database creation script from the vCenter installation CD and copy it under another path and rename it (to simplify the later entry of file names), and create a directory dedicated to the sso database. The scripts are located in rsaIMSLiteOracleSetupTablespaces.sql and rsaIMSLiteOracleSetupUsers.sql on the CD under\Single Sign On\DBScripts\SSOServer\schema\oracle

2. Open the ssotables.sql file, you can customize the database name according to your needs, modify the storage location of the database file, it is recommended to cancel the last QUIT command, you can check whether there is an exception in the creation process after creation.

3. Enter sqlplus in the run window to open the command window, use system user to execute ssotable.sql file, file suffix is sql input suffix can be omitted, if not sql format file needs additional suffix name, such as: xxx.txt

4. After creating the database, execute the ssouser.sql file to create users and authorize them. It is recommended to cancel the check after the QUIT command is executed and modify the passwords of some users in the red box as needed.

5. Confirm that there are no exceptions during user creation and authorization

6. Open the native ODBC data source and create a system DSN

7. Test ODBC data source connectivity

8. Install SSO, choose to use existing database when installing SSO database

9. Enter the database information. Note that the database name entered here is the database name created when Oracle is installed. It is different from MSSQL here.

A closer look at oracle's sso creation script reveals whether it actually creates a table, using, or the database created when oracle was installed

MSSQL creates a separate database for sso, so in MSSQL, sso and vcenter are two different libraries.

Oracle database allows vCenter and sso to share a database instead of creating two databases like MSSQL. Personal understanding may be fulfilling this paragraph in the instruction manual.

10. Install Inventory, keep default options until installation is complete

11. Install vCenter, select the created data source in the database option, and fill in the other settings according to the previous settings until the end of installation.

12. Install the web client, fill in the previous settings until the installation is complete, and then the operation is completed

13. Oracle Database Administrator Default validity period of 180 days, if you want to change to never expire use the following command to set

SELECT username,PROFILE FROM dba_users;

SELECT * FROM dba_profiles s WHERE s.profile='DEFAULT' AND resource_name='PASSWORD_LIFE_TIME';

ALTER PROFILE DEFAULT LIMIT PASSWORD_LIFE_TIME UNLIMITED;

Problems encountered during installation

After creating the sso database using the script, follow the instructions in the manual to continue creating the proprietary database for vCenter without exception

However, when authorizing the exclusive user of the database, the part in the red box will report an error, indicating that there is no permission, the specific reason is unknown, the online data are normal authorization, but repeated experiments will report an error here.
