Chapter 1 Overview

The National Information Security Competition for College students is a national scientific and technological activity for college students under the guidance of the Department of higher Education of the Ministry of Education and the Department of Information Security Coordination of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and sponsored by the Teaching steering Committee of the Information Security Specialty of the Ministry of Education. The participants are full-time undergraduate and junior college students. The purpose is to publicize information security knowledge and cultivate college students' innovative spirit and sense of teamwork. Expand the scientific vision of college students, improve their innovative design ability, comprehensive design ability and information security awareness; promote the reform of the curriculum system, teaching contents and methods of information security majors in colleges and universities; attract college students to actively participate in extracurricular scientific and technological activities to create conditions for training, selecting and recommending excellent information security professionals.

Since 2008, the competition has been held once a year, each lasting four months, divided into preliminaries and finals.

In 2008, the first national information security competition for college students was hosted by Chengdu University of Electronic Science and Technology. 258 teams from 54 universities across the country signed up to participate in the competition. finally, 73 works were selected in the final, 10 works won the first prize and 12 works won the second prize.

In 2009, the second National Information Security Competition for College students was organized by Beijing University of posts and Telecommunications and co-sponsored by Chengdu Institute of Information Engineering and Beijing Jiaotong University. 527 teams from 85 universities across the country signed up to participate in the competition. finally, 108 works were selected in the final, 12 works won the first prize, 24 works won the second prize, and 48 works won the third prize.

In 2010, the third National Information Security Competition for College students, sponsored by Harbin Institute of Technology and co-sponsored by Harbin University of Engineering, a total of 514 teams from 90 universities across the country signed up for the competition. There were 482 teams in the preliminary round, and finally 110 teams entered the final. Among them, 12 works won the first prize, 25 works won the second prize, and 50 works won the third prize.

In 2011, the fourth National Information Security Competition for College students, hosted by the University of National Defense Science and Technology, a total of 487 teams from 110 universities across the country signed up for the competition, and 120 teams were shortlisted for the finals. A total of 16 first prize, 32 second prize and 52 third prize were decided in the competition.

In 2012, the Fifth National Information Security Competition for College students, hosted by the Information Engineering University of the people's Liberation Army, was signed up by 527 teams from 130 schools. After preliminary evaluation, a total of 108 teams entered the final. After on-the-spot defense and demonstration and expert evaluation in the final, a total of 24 first prize, 59 second prize and 36 third prize were awarded.

In 2013, the sixth National Information Security Competition for College students, hosted by Sichuan University, was attended by 719 teams and 603 works from 101 universities across the country, the largest in the history of the competition. 136 works from 63 universities were shortlisted in the finals, resulting in 20 first prize, 35 second prize, 60 third prize, as well as excellent instructor, excellent organization award and other awards.

In 2014, the Seventh National Information Security Competition for College students will be hosted by the Naval Engineering University of the Chinese people's Liberation Army.
