Microsoft officially announced the release date of Windows 11 on October 5th.

The new operating system will be available as a free upgrade to eligible Windows 10 computers or on new hardware pre-installed with Windows 11. Work on a free upgrade to Windows 11 will begin on October 5th, but like many past Windows upgrades, it will be available in phases.

"after learning huge lessons from Windows 10, we want to make sure that we provide you with the best possible experience," explained Aaron Woodman, general manager of Windows marketing at Microsoft. "We expect all eligible devices to be upgraded to Windows 11 free of charge by mid-2022."

On existing Windows 10 computers, Windows Update will let people know when they can upgrade to Windows 11. You can also check whether your device is eligible for a Windows 11 upgrade through Windows Update or Microsoft's proprietary PC health check app (currently in the preview phase).

The bad news, however, is that the introduction of Windows 11 to Android apps will not be available on October 5th. A preview of the Android app on Windows 11 will be available to Windows Insiders in the coming months, indicating that it is likely not to be available to all Windows 11 users before 2022.

Microsoft last week clarified the minimum system requirements for Windows 11, but also revealed a workaround for those PC that did not meet the requirements, that is, the ISO method could be used to install Windows 11 on any hardware, as long as the computer had a 64-bit 1GHz processor, two or more cores, 4GB memory, 64GB storage, and TPM 1.2 chips.

However, if you use this solution, your PC will be in an unsupported state. This means that unsupported Windows 11 computers may not be able to get Windows Update or even security patches.
