Shulou(Shulou.com)06/01 Report--
Today I'll show you how to analyze AWS, Google, and Azure container services. The content of the article is good. Now I would like to share it with you. Friends who feel in need can understand it. I hope it will be helpful to you. Let's read it along with the editor's ideas.
More and more companies are using container technology to deploy cloud applications, and containers and cloud platforms seem to be closely integrated. So it's not surprising that the three major cloud platform providers-Amazon Cloud Computing platform, Microsoft Cloud Development platform and Google Cloud platform-launch their own container services in the market. However, these container services have their own advantages and disadvantages. What about them? The following is a technical evaluation. In the end, however, it depends on your application requirements.
Container product score table of three major cloud vendors and providers
Specifically, there are several important aspects of evaluating or using cloud container services, including data management, scalability, performance, security, DevOps, integrated management, and operation (the results are shown in Table 1). The use covers development and operation management. In short, it basically includes all the aspects involved in creating and using applications based on these three container service technologies.
Score 1-5: 1 is the lowest score and 5 is the highest score. A score of 1 means that the technology does not support the category involved at all, while a score of 5 means that the technology meets most of the features and functional requirements of the category involved. One of the requirements of the DevOps category is that the container subsystem can support DevOps operations, or it can provide an integrated configuration library.
Of course, this article only provides some basis for companies that evaluate container services provided by Google, Amazon or Microsoft. Your own application requirements are the final answer that determines which container you choose.
1 Integration and data
Microsoft Container Services (ACS) is based on Apache Mesos, an open source container orchestration system. This means that you can first consider the features and functions of Mesos that appeared earlier than ACS, and then make some good assumptions about the features and functions of ACS. ACS, which is not yet widely used, is the latest of the three container services mentioned earlier. As we get more data points about the ever-changing Microsoft container, there will be a lot of changes in this container service.
In the process of using AWS EC2 Container Service (ECS), we found some operational problems, such as the inability to fine-grained monitor containers. ECS integration management and operation are supposed to be as powerful as Amazon's other services, but compared with Google Container Engine (GKE) 's five points, ECS can only score 4. However, ECS offers services that, including CloudWatch integration, can help it compete with ACS. At the same time, ACS only supports Linux containers, Microsoft port Mesos over, .NET developers, lagging behind mainstream products.
On the data side, these container services provide native data connections and do not force the use of external application interfaces, but there is still room for improvement. It is worth noting that these container services combine containers with native data services but do not provide open data access because the latter emphasizes portability. It can be difficult to create a portable container if the data is closely tied to the container. This is an emerging area that needs attention at present.
2 Safety point of view
For security reasons, we found that with the help of the Kubernetes container choreography system, Google Container Service has "secret" features and some other resource limitations that the other two container services lack. Therefore, in terms of security, GKE ranks high. Note, however, that Microsoft is also using Kubernetes, but in a different way. The technology itself is mostly chosen according to the needs of users.
However, considering the main platform, or the public cloud platform on which container services are based, it is interesting that Google's platform, which has always claimed to be security-conscious, is not as good as AWS or Azure in some respects. The performance is that Google can cooperate with third-party access management tools, but lacks local access management tool support. Although this does not affect the ranking in the chart, this is something you need to consider when choosing a platform.
3DevOps and scalability
It is mentioned that DevOps,GKE and Amazon ECS have their own registries, and Google and AWS can provide better DevOps integrated management through their respective cloud platform container services. And Azure Container Service didn't.
Scalability is also relevant to your application requirements, so we make assumptions based on the mechanisms of these applications, such as Mesos, and some project cases. When using these technologies, you can control and execute your container in the same way. For example, Mesos's ACS can provide good scalability, but it is still not as good as GKE, because the latter can provide better clustering capabilities.
It is well known that Amazon ECS can provide high quality scalability, which also depends on the highly scalable platform features brought about by the AWS container engine.
Overall, Google offering is more advanced, thanks in large part to its close integration with its own Kubernetes container cluster and Google's development and operation support. However, Google Container Services is not so far ahead that AWS and Microsoft Container Services cannot catch up in the short term. After all, AWS has the largest market share, and it is likely to provide better container tools in the near future.
