two。 Migration between virtual platforms

P2V refers to the conversion of physical machines into virtual machines. P2V comes in handy when we consolidate an existing enterprise network with server virtualization products such as Hyper-V, where we need to convert existing physical servers into virtual machines in Hyper-V. After P2V converts a physical server into a virtual machine, you can use some of the advanced features of Hyper-V, such as Live Migration,Quick Migration.

P2V is even more useful if there are some old servers with low configuration in the enterprise. Because of the obsolete configuration of these old servers, it is barely supported to support the existing business system, so it is difficult to upgrade these old servers. After converting these old servers into virtual machines through P2V, the hardware level can be greatly improved and can better support the business system.

P2V also has a good performance in testing, if we want to go on a new business system, but do not dare to test directly in the existing physical network, for fear of causing failure and affecting the use of users. At this point, we can use P2V to convert all the servers in the existing physical network into virtual machines, and then test them on the virtual machines. Such test results have high credibility and will not have any adverse impact on the existing system.

There are two general ways for physical hosts to do P2V. one is that the traditional way is to directly use Disk2VHD to convert the physical hard disk into VHD, and then use this vhd on Hyper-V to deploy as a virtual machine. Another way is to use MVMC as a tool for transformation.
