Shulou(Shulou.com)06/01 Report--
Editor to share with you how to check whether the computer is using UEFI or BIOS, I believe most people do not know much about it, so share this article for your reference, I hope you will learn a lot after reading this article, let's go to know it!
When you try dual boot Linux and Windows, you need to know if there is a UEFI or BIOS boot mode on the system. It can help you decide which partition to install Linux.
I'm not going to discuss what BIOS is here. However, I want to tell you some of the advantages of UEFI through BIOS.
UEFI (Unified Extensible firmware Interface Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) is designed to overcome some of the limitations of BIOS. It increases the ability to use disks larger than 2TB and has an architecture and driver independent of CPU. With a modular design, remote diagnostics and repairs can be supported even if the operating system is not installed, as well as a flexible OS-free environment (including network features).
The advantages of UEFI over BIOS
UEFI is faster when initializing hardware.
Provide secure startup, which means that everything you load before you load the operating system must be signed. This provides an extra layer of protection for your system.
BIOS does not support partitions that exceed 2TB.
Most importantly, if you are dual boot, it is recommended that you always install both operating systems in the same boot mode.
It's not difficult to try to see if your system is running UEFI or BIOS. Let me start with Windows, and then see how I can see if I'm using UEFI or BIOS on a Linux system.
Check if you are using UEFI or BIOS in Windows
In Windows, in system Information in the start panel, in BIOS mode, you can find the startup mode. If it shows Legacy, then your system is BIOS. If UEFI is displayed, it is UEFI.
Another way: if you are using Windows 10, you can open File Explorer and go to C:\ Windows\ Panther to see if you are using UEFI or BIOS. Open the file setupact.log and search for the following string.
Detected boot environment
I suggest opening this file in notepad++ because it's a large file and notepad is likely to hang (at least it's 6GB to me! ).
You will see several lines of useful information.

The easiest way to find out whether you are using UEFI or BIOS is to find the / sys/firmware/efi folder. If you are using BIOS, the folder does not exist.
Find if system uses UEFI or BIOS on Ubuntu Linux
Another way: install a package called efibootmgr.
In Debian-and Ubuntu-based distributions, you can install the efibootmgr package using the following command:
Sudo apt install efibootmgr
When you are finished, enter the following command:
Sudo efibootmgr
If your system supports UEFI, it will output different variables. If not, you will see a message indicating that the EFI variable is not supported.

It's easy to see if your system is using UEFI or BIOS. On the one hand, things like fast and secure booting provide advantages for UEFI, and you don't have to worry too much if you're using BIOS, unless you plan to use a 2TB hard drive.
