1. Extract the files with the suffix .tar.Z, which are most common in AIX systems. You can extract them with the zcat command on AIX:

Zcat filename.tar.Z | tar-xvf-

2. Extract the .tar type file:

Tar-xvf

Tar-zxvf

4. Extract the .tgz type file:

Tar-zxf
