­FreeBSD 11.2 was released, which contains major changes to the FreeBSD kernel and user area, including new drivers, hardware support, new commands or options, major bug fixes, and contributed software upgrades. Updates to the operating system kernel include:

­linux (4) ABI compatibility layer has been upgraded to support musl consumers. [r321007]

­fdescfs (5) file system is upgraded to support Linux-specific fd (4) / dev/fd and / proc/self/fd behaviors. [r322340]

­New real-time clock support. [r323447]

­fixed possible system crash caused by ng_iface (4) driver. [r324175]

­upgrade the ipfw (4) packet filter to identify layer 2 and layer 3 packets and fix the dummynet (4) AQM packet marking problem. [r325730]

­fix the Intel ®Apollo Lake ™CPUs startup problem. [r333166]

­driver and disk updates include:

­support for TAIO USB multiprotocol adapters (TUMPA).

­cm (4) and fpa (4) drivers have been marked as deprecated and will be removed in FreeBSD 12.

­add the ocs_fc (4) driver to support Emulex 16max 8G FC GEN 5 HBA LPe15004 and LPe160XX, and Emulex 32max 16G FC GEN 6 HBA LPe3100X and LPe3200X.

­lmc (4) driver has been marked as deprecated and will be removed in FreeBSD 12.

­added smartpqi (4) driver to support Microsemi ®SCSI controller.

The changes to the user area include user software, contributed software, and system tools. Specifically related to the update of tcpdump, crontab, diskinfo, umount, pw, ps, df, ifconfig, less, file, diff, dtc, bsdinstall and many other applications.
