Pornhub just did what Google didn't do. Although it has something to do with this, I'm not talking about Pornhub's main business. The company reviewed its 2019 report, which contained an unexpected treasure that highlighted some of the things that Google had been trying to fix in Android for years, but had not yet been resolved.

From the beginning, Android has had a huge fragmentation problem. Google publicly denies it, but its actions speak louder than words, as the treble project proves. By the way, as more and more smartphone makers have access to Google's Android beta, and the treble seems to be launched faster than ever before, the treble project seems to be working.

But Android updates are still not fast enough, especially compared to iOS. When the platform version crashed, Google also stopped providing frequent Android status updates:

Android 10 (or Q) accounts for only 2%.

On iOS, about 71% of the iPhone and iPad used for Pornhub surfing run iOS13. Pornhub highlights the differences in upgrades between the two platforms:

If we break down the results into specific versions of the mobile operating system we use, we will find that Apple users tend to be newer than Android users. 71% of Apple visitors use iOS 13 (released in September 2019), while only 48% of Android visitors use the latest Pie (released a year ago in August 2018). Seventeen percent of Android visitors still use the operating system for more than four years.

Another conclusion of all this data is that Pixel phones are still not sold in large quantities. Pixel hardware runs the latest Google software, so if Google sells tens of millions of Pixel phones, it will definitely affect these statistics-Android 10 will have a higher market share.

Equally noteworthy is the impressive influence of Android 9. Pornhub can only access some of the data used in Google's report, because Pornhub only looks at devices that visit its website, but the fact that Android 9 accounts for nearly 50% of Android users visiting Pornhub.com is still inspired by Google's Android upgrade work. This shows that the treble project is running, although we may have to wait a few more years to see a return.
