First, let's take a look at the concept of operating hosts:

Operating mainframe in the forest

Schema host: used to control the definition of all objects and attributes in the entire forest of AD

Domain naming host: controls the addition and deletion of domains in the forest to prevent duplicate domain names in the forest.

An operating host in a domain that has one and only one

PDC emulation host (1) is responsible for time synchronization in the domain; (2) minimizes replication waiting time for password changes

The RID host assigns relative ID (RID) columns to each domain controller in the domain

The infrastructure host is responsible for updating references from objects in its domain to objects in other domains.

The uniqueness of the operation host role determines that not any domain controller can manage the entire domain.

When a domain controller that assumes the role of operating host needs downtime maintenance, in order to ensure the normal operation of the domain environment, it is necessary to transfer its host role to another running domain controller, which is called transfer operation host.

When the domain controller that assumes the role of operation host suddenly crashes or fails to operate properly, we need to use coercive means to occupy the role of operation host, which is called forced transfer (occupation of operation host).

Let's start with a brief introduction to how to transfer.

On DC1

Run the "mmc" command to open the console

(just add the AD schema host and change the operation host when you add it)

Transfer from Windows server 2008 to Windows server 2016 is complete!

Next, let's show you how to occupy

Now the AD1 failure is simulated, and the operating host of AD2 will do this.

In this way, the role of the operation host can only be transferred by the method of forced transfer. You need to use the ntdsutil command to perform the operation.

(AD1 had better not join this domain. I suggest you transfer it and not occupy it.)

At this point, all five operating hosts have been occupied.
