1. Replace kali update source

Why change the Kali update source? The reason is that many tools in Kali have to be downloaded abroad, so some domestic manufacturers and research institutes will put the downloaded software on their own websites for domestic Kali users to download and use.

Enter the command leafpad /etc/apt/soureces.list

Enter a domestic update source in the pop-up document.

II. Installation of open-vm-tools

Kali installed VMware-tools in version 2.0 and earlier, but in the 2016 rolling version, VMware-tools are no longer applicable (my own experience and comments are like this). I installed VMware-tools in the 2016 version, although the installation was successful (enjoy appeared) as in the previous version, but the described function could not be realized, that is, it did not work. So after some searching, the result is that in the rolling version, you need to install the alternative open-vm-tools tool.

Installation steps:

(1) Perform apt-get update to synchronize the source index. If you do not perform this step you will not be able to update and install the software online!

(2) Run apt-get install open-vm-tools-desktop fuse to install open-vm-tools. PS: A series of installation option prompts will pop up when the download completes automatic installation, and you can follow the default all the way ENTER (a bit like when installing VMware-tools).

(3) Perform a reboot or click the "Restart" icon to restart the system.

Description: I found it useless to install VMtools myself. I suggest online installation method, which has higher success rate and is more convenient.

At this point, open-vm-tools installation is complete, you can achieve real-time adjustment of client resolution, that is, adjust the window size at will.
