Instagram's main competitor, photo editing app VSCO, recently closed its New York office and laid off employees. It is reported that the decision is to concentrate employees at the headquarters of the Oakland company in order to better cope with market competition. In addition to its New York office, VSCO also has an office in Denver, and it was after the acquisition of Artifact Uprising, a Denver design studio that VSCO Studios officially changed its name to VSCO LLC.

Some of the job openings are listed on VSCO's official website, both in Denver and Oakland. Employees laid off in New York said they had been told that some of them would be relocated to the two places, but the exact number was not immediately clear. VSCO officials did not disclose details on the number of people involved in the severance incident, such as the number of employees at the time of the closure of the New York office, or the proportion of the severed staff to the company's total. However, according to relevant media, VSCO has more than 100 employees, more than 80 of whom work at its headquarters in Oakland.

VSCO New York opened last year to provide offices and open photography studios for New York employees. In fact, the plan to open a New York branch was proposed as early as 2014. At that time, VSCO had just received a $40 million investment in round A financing, hoping to double the number of employees by setting up a New York office to expand the company's size.

The head of the company confirmed to the media the fact that the New York office was closed, and they had planned to expand the studio of the New York branch, but with this change, the expansion plan will be transferred to the headquarters in Oakland.
