In this issue, the editor will bring you what the active Directory ActiveDirectory refers to. The article is rich in content and analyzes and narrates it from a professional point of view. I hope you can get something after reading this article.

Active Directory (ActiveDirectory) provides a way to centrally organize, manage and control access to network resources. It is a new content of the Windows2000 operating system. It plays an important role in implementing the organization's network and achieving the organization's business goals.

Active Directory (ActiveDirectory) can be introduced from three aspects:

1) Storage: active Directory ActiveDirectory, or Windows2000Server directory service, stores information about network objects in layers and provides this information to administrators, users, and applications.

2) structure: using the active Directory ActiveDirectory, you can organize the network and its objects according to the structure, including domain, directory tree, forest, trust relationship, department (OU), and site.

3) communicate with each other: active Directory ActiveDirectory is based on standard directory access protocols, so it can interoperate with other directory services and can be accessed by third-party applications that comply with these protocols.

The advantages of active Directory (ActiveDirectory) are:

1) integrate with DNS. The active Directory ActiveDirectory uses the Domain name system (DNS). DNS is an Internet standard service that translates computer names (such as mycomputer.microsoft.com) that users can read into numeric Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (four sets of numbers separated by English periods) that the computer can read. In this way, processes running on TCP/IP network computers can identify and connect to each other.

2) flexible query. Users and administrators who want to quickly find objects on the network through object properties can use the find command on the start menu, the Network places icon on the desktop, or the ActiveDirectory user and computer snap-in. For example, you can find a user by the name, e-mail name, office location, or other attributes of a user account. Moreover, the operation of finding information is optimized by using a global catalog.

3) scalability. The active Directory ActiveDirectory is extensible; that is, administrators can add either new object categories to the schema or new attributes to existing object categories. The schema contains the definition of each object category and the properties of each object category that can be stored in the catalog. For example, you might add a PurchaseAuthority attribute to the User object, and then save the purchase rights limit for each user as part of the user account.

4) Policy-based management. Group policies are configuration settings that are applied to computers or users at initialization. All Group Policy settings are contained in Group Policy objects (GPO) that are applied to active Directory sites, domains, or departments. GPO settings determine access to directory objects and domain resources, the domain resources that users can use, such as applications, and how these domain resources are configured for their purpose.

5) scalability. The active Directory ActiveDirectory includes one or more domains, each with one or more domain controllers, so that you can freely extend the directory to meet the needs of all networks. Multiple domains can be merged into a single domain directory tree, and multiple domain directory trees can be merged into a forest. In the simplest network structure with only one domain, the domain is both a directory tree and a forest.

6) Information replication. Active Directory ActiveDirectory uses multi-host replication, which allows you to update directories in any domain controller. Deploying multiple domain controllers in a domain also provides fault tolerance and load balancing. Because these domain controllers contain the same directory data, if one domain controller in the domain slows down, stops, or fails, other domain controllers in the same domain can provide the necessary directory access capabilities.

7) Information security. In the Windows2000 operating system, the management of user authentication and access control are fully integrated with the active directory ActiveDirectory, which is a key security function of the system. Active Directory ActiveDirectory centralizes authentication. You can define access controls not only for each object in the directory, but also for each attribute of each object. In addition, active Directory provides storage and scope of application for security policies.

8) Interoperability. Because active Directory ActiveDirectory is based on standard directory access protocols, such as lightweight Directory access Protocol (LDAP), it can interoperate with other directory services that use these protocols. Some application programming interfaces (API), such as the active Directory Service Interface (ADSI), allow developers to access these protocols.

This is what the active directory ActiveDirectory refers to. If you happen to have similar doubts, you might as well refer to the above analysis to understand. If you want to know more about it, you are welcome to follow the industry information channel.
