When we use Windows Server 2016 to try a Cortana search from the start menu or on a Windows Server 2016-based computer, we don't get any results or inconsistent results.

Reason

By default, the Windows search service in Windows Server 2016 is set to disabled. This is because in some cases, such as using a cluster shared volume (CSV) and running a remote Desktop session host (RDSH), the index of the volume can cause problems with multiple simultaneous sessions.

Steps:

If you plan to use Windows Server 2016 as a client desktop computer, or if you want to use the Windows search feature from the start menu, you can re-enable the Windows search service. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Press the Windows key

+ R opens the run box, type services.msc, and then press Enter.

two。 Right-click Windows Search, and then click Properties.

3. Change the startup type to automatic (delayed startup); click apply, and then click start. Click OK, and then close the Services console.

Or you can set the service status through the command line:

A.net start starts the WSearch service:

Net start WSearch

The b.sc command sets the service status and starts the service:

Sc config WSearch start= demandnet start WSearch
