The hardware requirements for installing Linux are as follows.

Video card: VGA compatible video card.

Optical drive: CD-ROM/DVD-ROM.

Other devices: such as sound card, network card and Modem, etc.

2.CentOS installation mode

Linux supports the following installation methods.

(1) CD installation: install directly with the installation CD, which is the simplest and most commonly used method, which is recommended for beginners.

(2) hard disk installation: copy the ISO installation CD image file to the hard disk for installation.

(3) Network installation: the system installation files can be placed on the Web, FTP or NFS server and installed through the network.

It is recommended that beginners install and learn in VMWARE!

3.CentOS installs hard disk partitions and file systems

3.1 CentOS install hard disk Partition

3.2 types of file systems used by Linux

(1) both EXT2 and EXT3 are file system types used by Linux operating system by default.

(2) EXT3 belongs to the journaling file system and is the upgraded version of the EXT2 file system.

(3) File systems of swap type are used in swap partitions of Linux systems.

(4) Linux supports reading and writing to FAT file systems (including FAT16 and FAT32)

(5) Linux supports reading to NTFS file system, but does not support writing to NTFS file system by default.

3.3 Linux CentOS installation Partition Scheme

When installing Linux, you need to establish partitions for Linux on your hard disk, and in most cases, you need to establish at least the following 3 partitions for Linux.

(1) / boot partition (not required): / boot partition is used to boot the system, which contains the kernel of the operating system and the

File, the size of the partition is generally 100MB.

(2) swap partition: the role of the swap partition is to act as virtual memory, which is usually about twice the size of the physical memory (when the physical memory is greater than 512MB, the swap partition is 512MB). For example, if the physical memory is 128MB, the size of the swap partition should be 256MB.

(3) / (root) partition: Linux saves most of the system files and user files on the / (root) partition, so the partition must be large enough to be larger than 5GB.

4.CentOS installation process

(1) set the host boot device to CD-ROM drive, enter directly or enter i586

(2) check the integrity of the installation disc (if the disc is complete, skip it)

(3) choose the language used for installation. It is recommended to use English.

(4) Select the installation type, which is selected here in Custom

(5) Select the disk partition and select Manually (manual partition)

(6) disk partition

/ boot 100M

/ swap 1024m (2 times memory)

/ remaining space (my total disk space is 8G)

(7) set IP address and DNS

Set up according to your own situation.

(8) set firewall. It is recommended that beginners set it to No firewall and Selinux to disable.

(9) Select the language used by the system. It is recommended to use English (USA).

(10) Select the time zone. Select Asia/Shanghai here.

(11) set the root password
