Step1: create a new ItemMetadata.xml file. Create a new text file, rename it to ItemMetadata.xml, and add the following.

Attributes that start with ows are fields in the secondary data source, and the workflow code can control the values of these fields, and you can add multiple fields as needed, but note that the format of the field names starts with ows_.

Step2: add a data connection. Choose data connection from the tools menu, as shown in figure 1.

Step3: click the add button in the pop-up data connection window, and then select the New connection and receive data only radio buttons in the pop-up dialog box, as shown in figure 2, click the next button.

Step4: select the XML document radio button, as shown in figure 3, and click the next button. Select the newly created "ItemMetadata.xml" file in Step1 as the data file, as shown in figure 4.

Step5: confirm that the radio button shown in figure 5 is selected. Enter the data connection name as "ItemMetadata" and click the finish button, as shown in figure 6.
