Grid Control (GC) is not only a good helper to monitor and manage database, but also a double-edged sword. If you can be "skilled" in the application, you can greatly improve the efficiency of managing and maintaining the database; on the contrary, if you do not have a comprehensive grasp of its hidden details, it is easy to bring unnecessary troubles and failures. This article shows you the detailed process of using Grid Control to quickly deploy Oracle physical DataGuard through practice. For reference.
1. Log in to GC and click Targets-Databases
At this point, you can see the two Oracle database instances managed by GC. The secdb instance is the physical DataGuard master database instance, and secgc is the database instance corresponding to the GC tool.

3. Click "Maintenance" to enter the maintenance page of the secdb instance
On the right, we can find the figure of Data Guard, click "Setup and Manage" under Data Guard.
4. To provide administrative user and password information at this time, click Login
5. Click "Add Standby Database"

6. To keep the default first option, click Continue
7. To leave the default first option unchanged, click Next
At this point, we have entered the configuration phase of step-by-step, because there is no backup media available before, so we choose to generate a backup here.
8. The directory where the backup media is stored and backup options need to be provided here.
The backup directory is specified as "/ home/oracle"
In order to save space, choose compressed backup, the corresponding backup time will also be increased.
Keep backup media for emergencies.
9. Give the location where the physical Data Guard is stored
The instance name of physical Data Guard is specified here as secdg
Enter oracle username and password
In this configuration, the newly deployed standby and primary libraries are on the host secdb1.
10. Give the corresponding relationship of files.
This step is very critical, countless people with lofty ideals fell here.
There must be no rush to click Next to proceed to the next step, we need to click Customize to customize the file directory. Otherwise, the standby_file_management parameters will be "MANUAL", db_file_name_convert and log_file_name_convert parameters will be empty, and the backup database will not be able to recover normally when the data files are added to the main database. 11. By default, the creation paths for data files, temporary files, log files, and control files are shown in the following three figures

Note: it is not enough to give a path, be sure to click "Go" at the end of the path. Only in this way, the given path name will really be applied, otherwise it will not help.

2) after clicking OK, you will receive the following reminder message. The warning message is due to the fact that the directory we specified has not been created beforehand. Click Yes and the system will create it automatically.
3) back to the File Locations interface, nothing seems to have happened, but everything has changed. Click Next to continue.
13. The configuration interface needs to give the Unique Name, Target Name and Standby archive path information of the slave library.
1) modify it according to the content in the figure, and then click Next.
2) the warning message here is also caused by the non-existence of the set Standby archive path. Click Yes to let the system create it automatically.
14. This is the Review phase for the configuration of the previous steps
1) carefully check whether the basic parameter information of the master and standby database is correct.
2) carefully check whether the corresponding relationship between master and standby database data files, temporary files, log files and control files is adjusted correctly. Click Finish after everything is confirmed, and then you will enter the unattended automatic creation phase.
15. The following is the process by which GC automatically creates a physical Data Guard. If there is no problem with the previous configuration, after a moment, a fresh physical Data Guard will be presented to the world.
1) initialize Job for subsequent automatic creation
2) automatically create Job backend and run automatically. You can click "Creation in progress" to track the running process of the entire Job.
3) overall operation

5) at this point, the creation of the entire physical Data Guard has been completed
The total time is 369 seconds, less than 7 minutes.
6) at this time, the status of Job has been displayed as "Succeeded" and has been created successfully.
16. Finally, you can see the information of the successfully joined secdg instance from the Targets-Databases interface, which is the physical Data Guard database of secdb.
17. Summary
If all goes well, it takes only about 10 minutes to create a physical Data Guard using Grid Control, which is amazing. While getting convenient, this method also hides a lot of implementation details, which is not convenient for in-depth understanding of the operation principle of Data Guard.
