1. Restart the system and select Solaris failsafe to start.

2. Press y to hang the disk in the / a directory

3. Define the terminal and edit the shadow file

# cd / a/etc

# TERM=vt100

# export TERM

# vi shadow

(Remove root's encrypted password string)

# reboot

4. Reset the root password

# passwd root
