As you may already know, the internal deployment of Microsoft Office 365 and SharePoint Server 2013 2016 in the cloud can work together in a number of ways. These are often called mixed patterns because they integrate functionality into SharePoint Online and SharePoint internal deployments. The following Microsoft provides a quick preview of the integration between the following table, SharePoint Server and Office 365.

Refer to the official link for details:

SharePoint Server is applied in mixed integration mode. If you deploy within SharePoint Server 2016 and try to use a feature, you will automatically redirect to the equivalent functionality in Office 2016 online in a mixed environment. For example, if you are not in a mixed mode environment and click OneDrive in SharePoint, you will be redirected to the SharePoint Server OneDrive for Business path, but if you are in a mixed environment and click OneDrive, you will be redirected to OneDrive for Business in Office 365. In other words, the SharePoint Server hybrid integration model is designed to seamlessly integrate local and cloud environments for better experience.

In SharePoint Server 2016, the extensible application launcher is part of the hybrid site feature. In SharePoint Server 2013, it requires a July 2016 PU patch, and both separately enable the mixed site feature using the Windows PowerShell command

Scalable hybrid app launcher

The application launcher is included as part of SharePoint Server 2016. If you want to add it to SharePoint Server 2013, open the SharePoint 2013 Management Shell and run the following cmdlet:

For each site collection that you want to use this feature, run the following cmdlet:

Office 365 client Integration

Local SharePoint Server Central console
