If everyone can change the password of root, then the password has no meaning. So how to prevent others from entering single-user mode through the grub launcher to change the root password?

Environment: virtual machine vmware8.0.4 CentOS 6.3

Set the password to enter the grub startup program through the grub-md5-crypt command

Open the configuration file / etc/grub.conf of the grub launcher with vi and add a line of commands, then

Save and exit. The figure below is as follows

Note: in fact, / etc/grub.conf is the soft link of / boot/grub/grub.conf

Triple restart and press any key in a few seconds

4. If the following appears, you are required to enter the password of the grub startup program before you can enter the editor

Enter the password (this is the password entered twice in the first step in a row)

6 enter the editing interface of the grub startup program

Note:

Plaintext: it refers to the password entered twice on the keyboard

Ciphertext: refers to the encrypted sequence of characters
