Shulou(Shulou.com)06/02 Report--
What this article shares to you is about the difference between hub and switch. The editor thinks it is very practical, so I share it with you. I hope you can get something after reading this article. Let's take a look at it with the editor.
The difference: the replacement works at the data link layer and forwards data through the MAC address, while the hub works at the physical layer and forwards data through broadcast. The bus topology is adopted in the hub, which must be unidirectional and can only be maintained in half-duplex mode at the same time; the channels between the two ports on the switch are independent of each other, and full-duplex communication can be realized.
The difference between switches and hubs:
1. Work level
The hub works in the physical layer and belongs to layer 1 equipment. Every time a data is sent, all ports can receive it, using the way of broadcast, so the network performance is greatly limited.
The switch works at the data link layer and belongs to layer 2 devices. Each port forms a MAC address forwarding table that forwards data according to the MAC address of the packet rather than broadcast.
2. Forwarding mode
The working principle of the hub is broadcast. No matter which port receives the data, it will be broadcast to all ports. When there are many access devices, the network performance will be greatly affected.
The switch forwards the data according to the MAC address. After receiving the packet, it checks the destination MAC address of the message and finds the corresponding port for forwarding instead of broadcasting to all ports.
3. Transmission mode
The bus topology is adopted in the hub, each node uses a common bus to communicate, and the CSMA/CD protocol is used to send and receive data packets, which must be unidirectional at the same time and can only be maintained in half-duplex mode. Two ports cannot send and receive data at the same time, and when the two ports communicate, the other ports work differently.
When the two ports on the switch communicate, the channels between them are independent of each other, and full-duplex communication can be realized. Both ports send and receive data at the same time.
4. Bandwidth impact
No matter how many ports a hub has, all ports share a broadband. Only two ports can transmit data at a time and can only work in half-duplex mode.
These are the differences between hubs and switches. The editor believes that there are some knowledge points that we may see or use in our daily work. I hope you can learn more from this article. For more details, please follow the industry information channel.
