Second, set up the file server

The first step is to build a DFS+FSRM environment:

First enter our DC, open the server management console of Windows server 2008 R2 (you can enter servermanager.msc directly in the run), select the role, and select the file service.

The windows search service is to integrate with sharepoint and windows search functions. Basically, few people are useful and can not be selected. Click next to select a domain-based namespace because we want to integrate with the domain for security control

After clicking next, you need to provide an account with permission in the domain to create the DFS namespace. It is recommended to use the account with administrator permission in the domain.

Click next after you are sure. Here you are asked to manage some shared locations under your space. Save the default here, and we will do configuration management later.

After the next step, configure disk monitoring. Keep the default, do not monitor any disk, and configure it later.

It is best to click install and wait for the installation to complete!

The second step, DFS+FSRM management configuration:

After the installation, we continue to open the server management console, where we can see the components related to the file service we just installed in the server role.

The first step we need to do is to add the shared resources of our file server, and then control the synchronization of shared resources through our DFS, monitor the permissions of the file server and upload and download through FSRM control.

1. DFS add shared resources: follow the steps 1, 2 and 3 in my figure below to add shared resources on your local or other file servers in the domain

In this demonstration, I also prepared another windows server 2003 machine to join the domain and use it as a file server. I added a local shared resource and a shared resource on 2003 through DFS.

After adding the shared resource, let's test it by access to see if the resource we added can be seen when we access it through the namespace name

We found that the resources we added can be accessed normally through the namespace path, and the folders can be opened, and the resources are added successfully!
