Shulou(Shulou.com)06/01 Report--

Most of the current computer hard disk is using the "MBR partition scheme," described in detail above MBR disk, now say GPT disk. GPT is a Globally Unique Identifier Partition Table Format derived from the disk partitioning architecture used by EFI (Extensible Firmware Interface). Now, in the plainest terms--

Comparison: MBR disks allow up to 4 primary partitions and support a maximum disk capacity of 2TB, while GPT disks allow up to 128 primary partitions (in Windows systems) and support a maximum disk capacity of 18EB (1EB=1024PB=1024*1024TB). Every GPT disk has a Protective MBR that prevents damage by disk management tools that do not recognize GPT partitions. For Windows systems, there are several partitions in the GPT partition scheme: MSR partition, ESP partition. The Protective MBR mentioned above is an MSR partition in Windows systems, which is a partition that must exist;ESP partition (not required) is a partition that stores boot files in systems that use UEFI BIOS computers (of course, there are other files).

GPT "advantages and disadvantages" coexist. Pros: Support for larger hard disks, more partitions, larger individual partition sizes, GUID per partition, partition tables with backups. Of course, the GUID partition table also has deficiencies, as shown in the following figure:

Note: The speed of hardware development is always amazing. A few terabytes of hard disk, EFI BIOS computers will be popular, GUID partition scheme will eventually become mainstream.
