VMware commonly used virtual machines of the commonly used Host-only, Bridge, NAT three kinds of network connection, the following is a part of personal experience sharing.

Three ways of setting up VMware network

1 Host-only connection mode

(1) principle: it is simply understood that a virtual network card is added to the host host, and the host host becomes a dual network card host (physical network card + virtual network card). A virtual switch is added to the back end of the host host, which is composed of the host host and all virtual machines to form a virtual local area network. Because of the dual network cards, the host can participate in two Lans at the same time (the original host LAN + the new virtual LAN), and the two Lans are not connected by default.

(2) Application scenario: the virtual machine can only access the host host, but not the public network; the host can access the public network and virtual machine.

2 Bridge (bridge) connection mode

It is simply understood that a virtual switch is added to the front end of the host host, and then the host and all virtual machines share the switch, and the virtual machine is assigned an independent IP address different from that of the host, and the host and the virtual machine are in the same network segment. (the virtual machine joins the local area network where the host is located)

Application scenario: the virtual machine can interact with the host and the external network, and the external network can access the virtual machine and host host. The host can access virtual machines and external networks.

3 NAT connection mode

From an external point of view, the virtual machine shares the IP address of the host host, the virtual machine can access the host host and the external network, and the external network cannot access the virtual machine. Simply understand, the host is a dual network card host composed of a physical network card and a virtual network card; the host can access the original local area network and the newly-built virtual local area network.

Application scenario: the virtual machine can interact with the host and the external network, but the external network cannot access the virtual machine; the host can access the virtual machine and the external network.

The following highlights the network settings in the commonly used NAT mode.

1. Basic network settings

2. DNS settings

When the virtual machine can access the public network IP, but cannot access the URL, you can configure it through the following steps:

(1) query the details of the network connection of the local network card to obtain the actual DNS address, as shown in the following figure.

(2) update the configuration file of the VM virtual machine according to the actual DNS address obtained in step 1, as shown below:

(3) execute the service network restart command to restart the network service of the VM virtual machine.

Successfully completed the task of accessing the external network by the virtual machine.
