This configuration was originally very simple, but it took me a long time to figure it out. I have been using AWS's Simple Mail Service account to send e-mail, but I have been unable to send it, log prompt:

Failed to send email: SSL connect error: error:140770FC:SSL routines:SSL23_GET_SERVER_HELLO:unknown protocol

Later, I decided to try to use an external mailbox. It was a failure at first, and then I found a clue here.

Then I changed this place to STARTTLS and the alarm email was sent out successfully.

When Zabbix was upgraded to version 4.2 on Sept. 18, the mail setting seemed a little different, but filling in the same information kept prompting this error:

Connection timeout of 3 seconds exceeded when connecting to zabbix server localhost

After inquiring on the Internet, I think it should be the wrong problem of port or username password. Later, I found that outlook mailbox will automatically detect and block this new connection.

Later, it was set or changed back to AWS's Simple mail service.

Add: on Sept. 19, the email service for setting up smtp.live.com in AWS China went smoothly without problems, but the United States reported an error. I don't know if it was the problem of aws or the email security mechanism of live.com.

After setting this, follow these steps to add the alarm function.
