Azure backup provides the ability to restore Azure virtual machines (VM) and disks from Azure VM backups (also known as recovery points). This article describes how to restore files and folders from an Azure VM backup. Restore files and folders apply only to Azure VM that are deployed using the Explorer model and are protected to the recovery service vault. This feature applies to Azure VM that is deployed using the Explorer model and is protected to the Recovery Services vault. Restoring files from encrypted VM backups is not supported.

1. Mount the volume and copy the file

To restore a file or folder from a recovery point, go to the virtual machine and select the desired recovery point.

1) Log in to the Azure portal and click Virtual Machine in the left pane. "from the list of virtual machines, select a virtual machine to open its dashboard."

2) in the virtual machine menu, click backup to open the backup dashboard.

3) on the backup dashboard menu, click File recovery.

The File recovery menu opens.

4) from the Select recovery Point drop-down menu, select the recovery point that contains the desired file. The latest recovery point is selected by default.

The Chrome browser will prompt for security questions. Click keep.

Download completed

5) to download the software you want to use to copy files from the recovery point, click download executable (for Microsoft Azure VM) or download script (for Linux Azure VM, a python script is generated).

6) the executable file or script is password protected and requires a password to run. On the File recovery menu, click the copy button to load the password into memory.

7) from the download location (usually the download folder), right-click the executable file or script, and then run it with administrator credentials. When prompted, type the password or paste the password in memory, and then press Enter. After you enter a valid password, the script connects to the recovery point.

If you run the script on a computer with limited access, make sure you have access to:

Download.microsoft.com

Restore service URL (region name refers to the area of the restore service vault)

Https://pod01-rec2.geo-name.backup.windowsazure.com (for Azure public areas)

Https://pod01-rec2.geo-name.backup.windowsazure.cn (Azure China)

Https://pod01-rec2.geo-name.backup.windowsazure.us (for Azure U.S. Government Edition)

Https://pod01-rec2.geo-name.backup.windowsazure.de (Azure Germany)

Outbound port 3260

After loading, you can see that there is one more disk in the computer.

You can find the file or folder you want to restore and copy it directly.

two。 Close the connection

After you identify the file and copy it to your local storage location, delete (or uninstall) another drive. To uninstall the drive, on the File recovery menu in the Azure Portal, click Uninstall disk.

After uninstalling the disk, you will receive a message. It may take several minutes for the connection to refresh so that the disk can be deleted.

After uninstalling the results, you will not see that volume in Windows.
