The construction of the open source infrastructure world is not achieved overnight, nor can it be completed by one company. Open design, development models, communities and other open elements are integrated together. Only with the support of everyone can best practices be completed, promote the progress and landing of open source projects, and achieve more complete openness. Only in this way can IT infrastructure be truly valuable.

With the large-scale landing of cloud computing, container technology has already become a hot spot.

When it comes to containers, the first thing that comes to mind is Docker. When using Docker lightweight containers, users can achieve rapid application development and delivery, but they will also face security problems. In contrast, the use of KVM virtualization technology can effectively solve security problems, but its speed is not satisfactory.

Previously, a more general solution was to run containers in a virtual machine, but the result of this approach is often a lot of containers that run very slowly. In order to solve the balance between container security and speed, OpenStack launched the Kata Containers project, and the founding members include Intel, Google, Huawei, EasyStack and so on.

At the conference, Mr. Su Yide introduced the Kata Containers project to everyone in detail. The project combines Intel's Clear Containers and Hyper's RunV technology, which enables users to have both the security of virtual machines and the speed and manageability of containers. The project can support different hardware platforms and comply with OCI (Open Container Initiative) specification and Kubernetes CRI (Container Runtime Interface) interface specification.

It can be said that if the Kata project can be widely used and continuously optimized, then there is no doubt that the problems faced by the container technology application mentioned above will be well solved. But it is worth mentioning that the Kata Containers project does not appear as a replacement. In an interview after the meeting, Mr. Sued said: "Docker and Kata appear to be competitive, but in fact there has been a very successful cooperation between them. We also discussed cooperation with Docker's CEO and considered integrating Kata into Docker."

At the scene of the conference, the Kata Containers project attracted great attention and heated discussion at the same time. Relatively speaking, the project is still in its infancy. As an open source project, its progress and development requires the joint efforts of community members. During the conference, Mr. Su Yide also repeatedly offered an olive branch to all IT technicians, clearly expressing the hope that everyone would join the open source community to jointly promote the development of open source projects and achieve more complete openness.

"Intel is committed to continuing to support the OpenStack project. We have a variety of products under the Foundation. In addition, our projects and products with our current major partners are based on open source projects and are based on OpenStack-related projects, so in order to better support our customers, it is necessary for us to continue to make in-depth investment in this area." Su Yide said. As the founder and one of the major contributors to the Kata Containers project, Intel will also continue to increase its investment in this area.
