1. Preparation before installing ESXi:

1, server selection: most use rack servers, if conditions permit, you can choose blade servers. However, although the blade server performance is superior, but because the vSPhere license is based on the actual hardware configuration of the project to determine the price, so the license price of blade server is very high, most enterprises use three main server brands: Dell, HP, IBM, these servers are very good in terms of vSPhere hardware compatibility.

2. Hardware selection: after purchasing a server, you must consider the specific hardware configuration requirements, that is, you must ensure that the host meets the minimum configuration supported by ESXi 5.5:

(1), ESXi 5.5can only be installed and run on 64-bit X86CPU servers

(2) ESXi 5.5 requires the host to have a CPU with at least 2 cores (select the same vendor Intel or AMD for multiple ESXi networks, otherwise the advanced features provided by vSPhere are not supported).

(3) ESXi 5.5 requires at least the memory of 4GB.

(4) to support 64-bit virtual machines, X64CPU must support and enable hardware virtualization (VT-x or RVI).

(5) ESXi 5.5 requires one or more Gigabit or 10G Ethernet controllers.

(6) any combination of one or more controllers.

The basic SCSI controller, that is, Adaptec UItra-160 or UItra-320, LSI Logic Fusion-MPT, or most NCR/Symbios SCSI. RAID controller, that is, DellPERC (Adaptec RAID or LSI MegaRAID), HP Smart Array RAID, or IBM (Adaptec) ServeRAID controller.

Of course, if we want to achieve all the functions of vSPhere well, we need more powerful hardware configuration as support. What can affect the performance of vSPhere is not only powerful CPU and memory, but also stable network transmission and efficient storage devices. If you want to know whether your server hardware meets the hardware requirements of ESXi, you can query the VMware compatibility guide through https://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility.

2. Start installing ESXi 5.5:

Put the prepared ESXi 5.5 installation CD into CD-ROM, start the server and boot from the CD, and after waiting for a period of time, the following boot interface appears:

1. The first option in the above interface is to start the installation of ESXi 5.5. the second option, "boot from local disk", is to boot from the local disk. Here, you can select the first one by default and wait for it to start booting the ESXi 5.5installer automatically.

2. Open the welcome interface of the installer for ESXi 5.5 and press the enter key to proceed to the next step.

3. Enter the ESXi 5.5 installation license agreement interface and press the "F11" key to proceed directly to the next step.

5. The system begins to automatically query the available storage devices for users.

6. Here you can choose which disk to install ESXi 5.5.The ESXi 5.5provides two disk modes, local disk (local) and network disk (remote). If you choose the network disk method for installation, the ESXi host must be able to support ISCSI boot firmware list (iBFT) and have a network card capable of iSCSI boot. No matter which installation method, it will not affect the performance of vSPhere itself, because there are only four aspects that affect vSPhere performance: CPU, memory, network and storage. There is only one disk here. If there are many disks, you can press F1 key to view the details of the disk. Confirm that it is correct and then select:

7. Configure the keyboard layout by default. Press Enter to proceed to the next step:

8. Set the password for administrator root. If the password is greater than 6 characters, press Enter to proceed to the next step:

9. Start scanning the system. After waiting for a moment, press the F11 key to start the installation of ESXi 5.5 after the following screen appears:

(scanning system)

(press F11 to start installation)

(show installation progress bar)

10. Press the Enter key to restart the system after installation:

At this point, ESXi 5.5 is installed and loaded into the following interface after reboot. You can press F2 key to log in:

Enter the root password:

The main menu options of the login interface are described as follows:

Second, use vClient 5.5 to connect to ESXi 5.5.

VClient installation is a stupid installation, but you need to make sure that no version of Microsoft Visual Jacks is installed on the system, and you should note that the version of vClient cannot be lower than that of the ESXi 5.5 system, otherwise an error will be reported when connecting to ESXi 5.5. Here I use vClient 5.5:

1. Enter the IP address set by ESXi 5.5, and enter the user name and password:

2, pop-up SSL signing certificate-related dialog box, here I chose to ignore, by default, vSPhere requires that each component must have a SSL certificate, and as part of the installation process to create and save on each system, these certificates are unique, but not signed by a trusted certificate authority (CA).

3. After the connection is successful, the evaluation period notice will be prompted, and the activation method will be written in future articles.

4. View the information of ESXi 5.5:
