Benshaw found that many friends were interested in the message that the Astro Slide 5G is a mini portable phone designed for keyboard enthusiasts. Benshaw edited some information for Astro Slide 5G to make it a mini portable phone for keyboard enthusiasts and share it here.

If you've been waiting for a 5G smartphone with a physical keyboard, be prepared to get excited. Planet Computers is known for its firmness (some might say it is obsessed with the shape of a micro-laptop). The company revealed its latest model, Astro Slide, with a "RockUp" sliding mechanism and high-speed connection.

This is not a small device, but it is not a typical Android smartphone either. The front has a 6.53-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 that can be pushed up and back to show a backlit physical keyboard.

In this way, when you just want to browse the Internet, check social networks or take pictures, you can use a regular mobile phone, and when you need to type words carefully, you can use a mini laptop. Previously, Planet's Cosmo Communicator and the company's original Gemini PDA promised similar flexibility. However, this new hinge mechanism has some obvious advantages.

The greatest possibility is the convenience of one-handed use. The Astro Slide is certainly not a small and slim phone-it is 15mm thick, while the Galaxy S20 Ultra is 8.8mm-but in theory its external main display can be used with one hand. The company's previous models were closed like a flip, which meant that the main display could not be seen.

Cosmo Communicator adds an external auxiliary display, but this is only useful for notifications and so on. By contrast, the Astro Slide can be used entirely as an Android 10 phone, whether it is turned on or off.

There is a 48 million pixel rear camera and a front camera for selfies. Astro Slide also has fingerprint sensors, microSD slots, and NFC support. Generally speaking, there are not only two nanometer SIM card slots, but also support eSIM. This may mean that there may be three service lines on a single device.

Internally, Astro Slide uses MediaTek's Dimensity 1000 chipset. The eight-core chipset was released in November last year, pairing four performance cores with four efficiency cores and one Mali-G77 GPU. MediaTek also has new AI processing units, WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1, as well as its 5G.

The problem is that what Dimensity 1000 does not have is mmWave 5G support. Instead, the chipmaker focuses on networks below 6 gigahertz. The decision made sense for many global markets, but it had disappointing consequences for the United States. Verizon's fastest 5G service, for example, is based on mmWave, while sub 6 is now more common in the US, but much slower.

Even with the basic configuration of Astro Slide, there will be at least the memory of 6GB and the storage space of 128GB. Later, Planet said that for people who want the Linux operating system and Android, there will be multiple boot options. The battery, which has a capacity of 4000 mAh, should last all day, the company says, and support wireless charging; it has two USB-C ports, stereo speakers and a 3.5mm headphone Jack.

Planet Computers is using Indiegogo to support production, and at the time of this writing, Indiegogo has exceeded its initial target of $150000 by 50% and has 40 days to run. The retail price of the Astro Slide is expected to be around $907, although early supporters can get one from the price of $544. The company said it hoped to start delivery in March 2021 if all went according to plan.
