Fault diagnosis.

Since the author has been doing application extension mapping configuration operations in Windows Server 2000 and Windows Server 2003 server systems before, and has not encountered the above strange fault phenomenon for a long time, so when my friend told me the above fault phenomenon, the author also felt a little incredible. What is the reason why the application extension mapping cannot be added successfully?

At first, the author thought that the system files related to IIS in the Windows system had been damaged, so he immediately opened the system run dialog box, in which the string command "sfc / scannow" was executed to repair the system files; but after the repair operation was completed, the system did not pop up to indicate that the files were damaged, indicating that the failure of the application extension mapping could not be added has nothing to do with whether the system files were damaged.

In the absence of a clue, the author had to have a try and go to Microsoft's official website to find the answer. After a hard search, the author really found the corresponding explanation: when configuring the IIS application settings properties on the computer with the Windows XP system installed, click the Browse button in the application extension mapping add / edit dialog box, specify the specific path of the target application in the Web server, and set the corresponding extension. The "OK" button in the response dialog box will be unavailable, mainly because the application entered by the user in the "executable" text box of the figure 1 interface contains a compression path, which is a new technology added to the system above Windows XP, although this technology enhances readability. However, the application extension mapping add / edit dialog box believes that such an application path is incorrect, causing the OK button in the corresponding dialog box to be grayed out and unselectable.

To solve this problem, all we have to do is move the mouse pointer to the executable text box in the figure 1 interface and click, so that we can see that the compression path will automatically fail at this time. At the same time, the OK button in the application extension mapping add / edit dialog box is automatically activated once the OK button is found to be clickable We can successfully complete the application extension mapping configuration operation. Of course, if we know the detailed path of the target application, we can enter the path information of the target application directly by manual input, and set its extension name, so that the "OK" button will not be invalid. we can add the specified application extension mapping successfully by clicking the OK button.

Tip: the so-called compression path means that when the detailed path information of an application or a specific file is entered in some system dialogs, if the length of the application path entered in the address box exceeds the actual display length of the address box, the Windows system will automatically compress the ultra-long application path so that the beginning and end of the target application or specific file are fully displayed in the address box. All the middle parts are replaced by ellipses, which can effectively enhance the readability of the input and the ease of operation.

Fault summary

Although it is not suitable to use the computer installed with the Windows XP system as the information server, in some special occasions that are anxious to release information, many users will choose to temporarily set up a personal information server in the Windows XP system, so the above glitches will sometimes be encountered. Of course, after the IIS server has been running for a long time, there will often be some other minor failures, some of which can be successfully eliminated through our reasonable settings.
