This article mainly introduces how to set up x86_64 plug-in for Firefox in CentOS 6.4. The article is very detailed and has certain reference value. Interested friends must read it!

CentOS x86_64 includes a 64-bit version of Firefox, but finding and configuring plug-ins can be problematic. Many people still prefer and recommend 32-bit browsers and plug-ins for x86_64, but x86_64 support has improved significantly, so hopefully this page will help those who want to switch to 64-bit. This page explains how to install and configure Adobe Flash and Java plugins.

Note: CentOS-5 ships java-1.6.0-openjdk, but x86_64's java-1.6.0-openjdk-plugin component is missing.

The following steps (except for downloads) must be performed as root.

Step 1: Set up RPMforge or Adobe library

This Wiki article explains how to set up RPMforge. Please take note of the warnings and read and follow the "Priorities" Wiki article to set up yum-priorities plugins when using third-party libraries. Adobe currently provides a 64-bit yum library at http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ Please download the definition file for the library, tentatively named adobe-release-x86_64-1.0-1.noarch.rpm, and install it at rpm. If you are using yum priorities, edit/etc/yum.repos.d/adobe-linux-x86_64.repo and set your preferences. If installed, Adobe's version will supersede RPMforge's version, and Adobe's software libraries will take precedence.

Step 2: Set up x86_64 flash plug-in

The following instructions install an RPM component with the required plug-ins.

yum remove flash-plugin nspluginwrapper*yum install flash-plugin reports, especially on minimal installations, you may need to install Sound and Video groups for flash to work properly.

yum groupinstall "Sound and Video" Step 3: Set x86_64 Java execution environment and plug-ins

Download Sun jre "Linux X64 RPM", go to the download directory, install, and set up. See How to Install Java Runtime Environment from Java.com for details.

Step 4: Test Java Execution Environment and Flash Plug-in

java -version This should report the Java version.

Java and flash plugins should now work. Please end Firefox in execution and then reboot it.

Enter about:plugins in the URL field. Java and Flash are enabled.
