Preface

As a Linux engineer, no matter it is operation and maintenance, application, drive direction, Linux environment is definitely needed in the work. One way to get the Linux environment is to directly replace the computer system with the Linux system, but we are usually used to the Windows system, so switching directly to the Linux system will more or less have a lot of inconvenience. Another way to be more tuhao is to buy another computer and replace the system with a Linux system. But this method hurts the wallet.

One compromise is to install a Linux virtual machine on your own computer. The so-called virtual machine is to virtualize one or more computers in your existing computer, which can be understood as the computer in the computer.

For example, you can install a Window computer or a Linux computer in a virtual machine. The function of a virtual machine is to help you virtualize the resources you need to run a real computer, and then you can run other operating systems on it.

There are two commonly used virtual machines, Wmware,VirtualBox. These two virtual machines are similar to each other, but WMware is more comprehensive, so Liangxu prefers to use VMware, and you can choose according to your preferences.

Installation of virtual machine

The first step is to download the installation package for the virtual machine, and the latest version is VMware 14.1.1. There are three ways to download:

VMware official website; Baidu Software Center; find Liangxu-> reply in the official account: virtual machine, get the download link (see QR code at the bottom of the official account).

After downloading the virtual machine installation package, install it on your computer. The installation process is simple, and the next step along the way will be fine.

Download of Ubuntu image

After the virtual machine is installed, the first step is completed. It's like buying a computer without installing an operating system. There are many Linux distributions to choose from, such as Ubuntu,Fedora,Centos,OpenSUSE, and so on. Among them, for starters, the use of Ubuntu is more appropriate, because its various libraries have been integrated, there is no need for tedious installation.

There are three ways to obtain an image of a Ubuntu18.04 64-bit operating system:

Ubuntu official website; Baidu Software Center; find Liangxu-> reply in the official account: virtual machine, get the download link (see QR code at the bottom of the official account).

After downloading, put the image anywhere (such as the desktop). As long as you can find it, you can delete it after installation.

Virtual machine hardware configuration

Before formally installing a virtual machine, you need to configure the computer, such as how much memory is allocated to it, how many cores of CPU, what the network type is, and so on, just like us.

After the virtual machine is installed, the interface is shown in the following figure:

Select customize in the pop-up dialog box, and then click next:

Select the default in "Virtual Machine hardware compatibility" and go straight to the next step:

In "install client operating system", select "install operating system later", and then click next:

Still choose the default, go straight to the next step:

In this step, "name the virtual machine", give your virtual machine a name, such as Ubuntu_LX, and then select the location to install. The files generated by the virtual machine are relatively large, so the disk where you choose the location had better have more space left.

Choose 2 for both the number of virtual machine processors and the kernel, which is sufficient for development. Even if it is not enough, this parameter can be modified.

Virtual machine memory choice 2048m, that is, 2G, it is best to choose 1G, 2G, 4G, 8G, not 3G. This parameter can also be modified later.

The following steps can be directly "next step". If there is not enough disk space, you can choose 40g, which is dynamic, that is, it does not take up 40G of your disk at once, but how much you use.

After the above steps are completed, the virtual captain looks like this:

Ubuntu image installation

After the virtual machine hardware is configured, the Ubuntu operating system is officially installed.

Click "Edit Virtual Machine Settings" circled above.

In the pop-up menu, select "CD/DVD (SATA)" from the left, then select "use ISO Image File" on the right, and then click Browse to find the Ubuntu image.

Then click OK, and then click "turn on the virtual machine". After the virtual machine is turned on, select "Install Ubuntu". The language selection on the left refers to the system language. We do development, it is recommended that the language and so on all choose English.

The next step is to choose the keyboard layout. The layout we use here is American standard, so we all choose English (US).

The next step is a direct default:

By default in "Installation Type", click "Install Now" directly, then click "continue" in the pop-up window:

Click Greater China on the "Where Are You?" map, and then click "continue":

Fill in the basic personal information in "Who Are You?", then click "continue", and then enter the download and installation process, which will take about 20 minutes.

After installation, select "restart now" to restart the virtual machine. At this point, the virtual machine and Linux system have been installed.
