Shulou(Shulou.com)06/01 Report--
What file systems are supported in Linux? Many novices are not very clear about this. In order to help you solve this problem, the following small series will explain it in detail for everyone. Those who have this need can learn from it. I hope you can gain something.
Linux is a free-to-use and freely distributed UNIX-like operating system, is a POSIX-based multi-user, multitasking, multi-threaded and multi-CPU operating system, using Linux to run major Unix tools, applications and network protocols.
Linux supports file systems such as Btrfs, JFS, ReiserFS, ext, ext2, ext3, ext4, ISO9660, XFS, Minx, MSDOS, UMSDOS, VFAT, NTFS, HPFS, NFS, SMB, SysV, PROC, etc.
Linux operating systems use virtual file systems (VFS) up and user process file access system call interfaces, down and implementation interfaces for specific different file systems. VFS shields the implementation details of specific files and provides a unified operation interface upward.
VFS allows arbitrary file systems to be implemented and accessed via file access system calls. Linux kernel can support more than ten file system types, such as Btrfs, JFS, ReiserFS, ext, ext2, ext3, ext4, ISO9660, XFS, Minx, MSDOS, UMSDOS, VFAT, NTFS, HPFS, NFS, SMB, SysV, PROC, etc.
The following describes several important file systems supported
Ext was designed specifically for Linux, the first file system made for the Linux kernel. Maximum single file limit: Unknown; this file system supports up to 2GB.
ext2 is designed by Rémy Card to replace ext, which is the file system used by LINUX kernel. A single file is limited to a maximum of 2TB; the file system supports a maximum capacity of 32TB.
Ext3 A journaling file system. A single file is limited to a maximum of 16TB, and the file system supports a maximum capacity of 32TB.
5. ext4Theodore Tso led the development team to implement the log file system under Linux system. A single file is limited to a maximum of 16TB, and the file system supports a maximum capacity of 1EB.
JFS2 is a byte-level log file system designed and developed primarily to meet the high throughput and reliability requirements of servers. A single file is limited to a maximum of 16TB, and the file system supports up to 1PB of capacity.
Note: Only maximum file size limits and maximum file system capacity for these file systems are described here, and performance comparisons are not described.
