Airflow containment is key

IT load power consumption, which used to vary by less than 5 percent, now varies linearly. Therefore, power supply and cooling need to adapt to IT load changes, and air flow also changes with load changes. When dealing with dynamic loads, more air conditioning is needed if traditional cooling methods are still used. Today, cooling systems account for nearly half of the overall power consumption of the entire data center. Therefore, it is unrealistic to add air conditioners to meet the demand of the load.

Xie Weigang said that the airflow containment system is the key to dynamic refrigeration. The advantages of airflow containment system can be summarized as follows: it has high supply and return air temperature of refrigeration system, which can avoid mixing of cold and hot air, realize energy saving and improve refrigeration capacity; it can effectively eliminate hot spots; it can prolong the operation time of energy-saving cooling mode; it can reduce the cost of humidification and dehumidification; it can improve the utilization rate of physical infrastructure. It is based on these considerations that Schneider Electric has introduced the EcoAisle refrigeration system. Xie Weigang said that EcoAisle refrigeration system has four characteristics: energy saving, flexibility, safety and beauty. EcoAisle, for example, can save energy by planning cold air so that it can deliver cooling according to the real-time needs of IT equipment while keeping critical IT equipment cool.
