What is the conceptual architecture?

Conceptual architecture is a design idea and important choice that directly points to the goal of the system, so it is very important. It can be found in the proposal, the Technical White Paper and the market color pages to illustrate the technical advantages of the product / project / solution. Therefore, some people call it "market structure".

In a large number of software companies, when recruiting system architect (SA), system engineer (SE), technical manager, pre-sales technical consultant and program manager, the position ability actually includes the requirement of "conceptual architecture design ability". For example:

System architect (SA). (1) overall software design, development and related design document writing; (2) key technology and algorithm design research; (3) system and technical solution design, software overall architecture construction; (4) communication protocol design, follow-up research;...

Systems engineer (SE). Product requirements analysis; product system design; technical problems; solution output and key customer guidance; guide development engineers to develop product requirements.

Technical manager. To be responsible for the architecture design of the company's system, to act as a bridge for the transformation from business to technology, to assist the project manager in formulating the project plan and project schedule control, and to assist the requirements analyst in requirements analysis and requirements documentation.

Pre-sales technical consultant. 1) responsible for supporting the pre-sales consultation of key customer solutions and capabilities; 2) completing customer research, demand analysis and plan development in the pre-sales phase of the project, coordinating the delivery department to complete POC or Demo;3) participate in the bid response and be responsible for bid clarification; 4) participate in the pre-project or high-level architecture design of the project, and complete the system design related to the project as needed.

Solution manager. Solution refinement and promotion; on-site pre-sales technical support, such as market planning, scheme preparation, pre-sales communication, etc.; provide bidding support for front-end market personnel, preparation or review of bidding scheme (technology, configuration);...

Conceptual framework, English is Conceptual Architecture. As for the definition of conceptual architecture, experts such as Dana Bredemeyer explain it as follows:

The conceptual architecture defines the high-level components of the system and the relationship between them. The conceptual framework is intended to decompose the system properly without getting caught up in details. In this way, we can communicate the structure with non-technical personnel such as managers, marketers, users, and so on. The conceptual architecture specifies the informal specification of each component, as well as the architecture diagram, but does not involve interface details. (The Conceptual Architecture identifies the high-level components of the system, and the relationships among them. Its purpose is to direct attention at an appropriate decomposition of the system without delving into details. Moreover, it provides a useful vehicle for communicating the architecture to non-technical audiences, such as management, marketing, and users. It consists of the Architecture Diagram (without interface detail) and an informal component specification for each component.)

Based on the above definition, we note the following points:

The conceptual architecture meets the basic definition of "architecture = components + interaction", but the conceptual architecture only focuses on high-level components (high-level components).

The conceptual architecture gives a general definition of the "responsibilities" of high-level components (informal specification), and gives the interrelationship between high-level components (Architecture Diagram).

And, of course, the conceptual architecture should not involve interface details (without interface detail).

The above definition is not satisfactory in practice. During the lecture, the author defines the conceptual framework as follows: conceptual architecture is a design idea and a major choice that points directly to the goal.
