In the previous article, "implementing Oracle 12cR2 RAC on Oracle VM", we created a 2-node RAC cluster on the Oracle VM virtualization platform. Now let's expand the 2-node cluster to the 3-node cluster, that is, add a new node 3.

Node 3:

-CPU&MEM: 4C8GB-HOSTNAME: pnode03-IP: 10.20.1.137-VIP: 10.20.1.138-PRIV-IP: 192.168.1.102-OS: Oracle Linux 7.5

Pre-installation preparation

System account and group, software package, system parameters and other configuration.

Node 3 GRID implementation

Since it is a new node in the original cluster, it is certainly not possible to install grid software directly on the node as it does with a single instance. To install grid on node 3, you need to do it from several existing clusters of nodes, here we use node 1. On node 1, execute as grid account

$ORACLE_HOME/addnode/addnode.sh

Use add to increase the information for node 3 and set up SSH equivalence:

Then the installer will do a series of checks, check that there is no problem, and then begin to install grid:

Finally, install the pop-up prompt box to execute the appropriate script until all scripts are executed successfully.

The GRID for node 3 is installed. So easy!

Node 3 Database implementation

Similarly, execute as the oracle account on Node 1:

$ORACLE_HOME/addnode/addnode.sh

The installer will automatically recognize the pnode3, then do the SSH equivalence, check the problem, and then start the installation. finally, follow the pop-up prompt box to execute the corresponding script, and the installation is complete:

After the installation is complete, you will be prompted to use DBCA to increase the database instance:

Add instances

Also run dbca on node 1, and select Oracle RAC database Instance management in the operation type:

Then choose to add instance Add an instance and connect to the local database instance:

Then set the instance name of node 3, which is indexed back by the original instance name by default:

After configuring these, you can start the creation of the instance, which will have a general instance information:

You can see that the main job of instance creation is to create the UNDO of node 3 and the online log.

After the creation is completed, we verify the current database cluster status:

You can see that node 3 has successfully joined the cluster.
