Installation of the first domain controller

Change the server name first, and you must change the server name to the correct name before promoting to a domain controller. If you have been promoted to a domain controller, you can only downgrade and then rename.

After changing the server name, you need to restart to take effect.

We use PowerShell's Rename-Computer [- NewName] to change the computer name as shown below:

Restart the computer and check that the computer name has been changed successfully

In the Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties dialog box for network connections, confirm the server's IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and so on.

Other computers in the domain environment find this domain controller through a DNS server, so a DNS server is needed.

In setting, because it is the first domain controller deployment, the first DNS server will be deployed, which can be configured to point to its own IP address. Click OK to close the dialog box after configuration.

Open Server Manager, and stand-alone "add roles and functions"

Add roles and Features Wizard, click next on the "before you start" page.

On the Select installation Type page, select role-based or feature-based installation, and click next.

On the Select the target server page, make sure the current server is selected, and click next.

On the Select Server roles page, select Active Directory Domain Services and DNS Server, and accept to add the required features in the pop-up dialog box, click add Features, and then click next.

On the feature pages and AD DS pages, keep the default options, and click next

Confirm to install the selected content page, confirm what you want to install, and click next.

On the installation progress page, when the installation is complete, click promote this server to a domain controller to open the Active Directory Domain Services configuration Wizard.

On the deployment configuration page, select "add New Forest", specify the root domain name as test.local, and click "next".

On the domain controller options page, the functional level of both the selected forest and the domain is "Windows Server 2016", ensuring that both the Domain name system (DNS) server and the global catalog (GC) are selected

Enter the directory service restore mode password and click next.

On the DNS options page, since there is no DNS parent area, do not select create DNS delegation here, click next.

On the other options page, check that the NetBISO domain name is correct, and click next.

Path page, specify the path to the active directory database file, log file, and SYSVOL file, and click next.

On the view options page, confirm the various options you set previously, and click next.

On the prerequisites check page, click next to start the check, and click install after the check is passed.

The server will be restarted automatically after the installation is complete. The restart is complete, and the first domain controller and the first DNS are created.
