Amazon.com announced a plan to encourage more girls to enter the technology industry. The AWS Get IT program, launched during a summit of cloud computing giants in London on Wednesday, aims to attract 12-to 13-year-olds, especially female students, to consider career development in cloud computing and digital roles.

The program, developed in partnership with the nonprofit Future Foundation (Future Foundations), will educate students in cloud computing technology and then invite them to create an application to solve practical problems facing schools or communities.

Darren Mowry, director of business development at AWS, announced in a keynote speech at the start of the ExCel event in London that AWS was "fully convicted" and needed more diverse, skilled and motivated people.

"what we have to do is not only to attract talent from all over the world, but also to create such a workforce," he said. "the way we do this is by using a programme we piloted in the UK, which focuses on motivating, training and training young women in the eighth grade and considering technical work in British schools.

"We achieve this goal by building partnerships with schools, providing AWS experts in business and technology, and spending time with these young people to help them understand future opportunities."

AWS will nominate ten teams at the London AWS Summit in 2020 to show them to the expert review team and then select an award-winning team. AWS will develop and maintain the most innovative application concepts for schools.

The Get IT program is interpreted as a digital skills camp where students can learn about the different stages of software development, such as how to identify the target audience of their applications. Each participant will learn problem solving, brainstorming, research techniques, prototyping, and testing and development methods.

More importantly, students will spend time in the AWS office learning Amazon's innovative approach and getting guidance on application development from corporate and industry experts.

For further inspiration, students will also learn about female leaders in AWS and other organizations, show them the different types of career paths available in the field of technology, and understand the positive impact of women on the industry.
