This article will explain in detail how to add users to the Linux desktop, the quality of the article content is high, so Xiaobian shares it with you as a reference, I hope you have a certain understanding of relevant knowledge after reading this article.

Managing users through the graphical interface is easy, both during installation and on the desktop.

Adding users is the first thing you do on a new system. Also, you usually need to manage users throughout the life cycle of your computer.

My article on the useradd command provides a deeper understanding of user management in Linux. useradd is a command-line tool, but you can also manage users graphically on Linux. This is the theme of this article.

Adding users during Linux installation

Most Linux distributions provide steps to create users during installation. For example, the Fedora 30 installer Anaconda creates the standard root user and another local user account. When you get to the Configuration page during installation, click User Creation under User Settings.

On the User Creation page, enter the user's details: full name, username, and password. You can also choose whether to make users administrators.

Click the Advanced button to open the Advanced User Profile page. If you need settings other than the default, you can specify the path to the home directory and the user and group IDs here. You can also enter other groups to which the user belongs.

Adding Users to the Linux Desktop

GNOME

Many Linux distributions use the GNOME desktop. The following screenshots are from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.0, but the process is similar in other distributions such as Fedora, Ubuntu, or Debian.

Open Settings first. Then open Details, select Users, click Unlock, and enter your password (unless you are already logged in as root). This will replace the Unlock button with the Add User button.

You can now add users by clicking Add User, then selecting Account Type and entering Username and Password.

In the screenshot below, the username has been entered and the settings are left as default. I don't have to type "username" because it is automatically created when I type it in the "full name" field. If you don't like autocomplete, you can still modify it.

This creates a standard account for the user named Sonny. Sonny requires a password when logging in for the first time.

Next, the user will be displayed. On this page, you can choose to customize or delete each user. For example, you might want to select an avatar or set a default language.

KDE

KDE is another popular Linux desktop environment. Below is a screenshot of KDE Plasma on Fedora 30. As you can see, adding users in KDE is very similar to adding users in GNOME.

summary

In addition to GNOME and KDE, other desktop environments and window managers also have graphical user management tools. Graphically adding users in Linux is quick and easy, both at installation time and after installation.

About how to add users to the Linux desktop to share here, I hope the above content can be of some help to everyone, you can learn more knowledge. If you think the article is good, you can share it so that more people can see it.
