Traditional practice

A general cloud infrastructure has multiple availability zones, and high availability is guaranteed between availability zones. To make an application fully available, you need to deploy the application on different availability zones, so that one availability zone fails and another availability zone can be used instead.

For applications with high availability requirements, to ensure reliability, they must be deployed to multiple different clusters. In the past, nodes were pulled into the same cluster from other availability zones. However, if the cluster fails, the application will become unavailable.

Deploy, manage, and upgrade applications simultaneously in multiple clusters

Rancher's support for multi-cluster applications creatively solves these problems by allowing users to select applications and target clusters, provide specific cluster data, and then start the deployment of those clusters. This is an important step forward for the industry.

Multi-clustered Kubernetes application support extends the powerful feature set of Kubernetes package manager Helm. Users simply select the application from the Rancher Catalog, add the target cluster, provide information about each cluster, and then deploy. Multi-cluster applications use Kubernetes controller running on the Rancher management platform to obtain the Helm chart and deploy the application to each target cluster. Through Helm chart,Rancher, you can achieve the functions of application upgrade, rollback and version control.

Multi-cluster application features will be included in Rancher 2.2.0-alpha6 and future versions to download the experience and use of the corresponding version:
