What are the eight reasons for choosing LXDE as the Linux desktop? I believe many inexperienced people don't know what to do about it. Therefore, this article summarizes the causes and solutions of the problem. Through this article, I hope you can solve this problem.

At the end of last year, I upgraded to the new version of KDE Plasma brought by Fedora 25, which must have made it unaccustomed to many people, which directly made it difficult for me to complete my scheduled work plan. I decided to try other Linux desktop environments for two reasons. First, I needed to do my job. Second, having been using KDE for years, I think it's time to try some different desktops. After a period of testing, I decided to use LXDE because it makes me feel very comfortable. Here are eight reasons why I chose LXDE.

1. LXDE supports multiple panels. Like KDE and Cinnamon, the LXDE panel contains a system menu, an application launcher, and a taskbar that displays buttons for running applications. The panel configuration looks good when you log in to LXDE for the first time. LXDE seems to have selected top and bottom panel configurations similar to KDE, including system tray settings. The application launcher on the top panel appears to be from the Cinnamon configuration. The contents of the panel make it easy to start and manage programs. By default, there is only one panel at the bottom of the desktop.

▲ opens the LXDE desktop of Openbox configuration Manager. This desktop has not been modified, so it uses the default color and icon scheme.

2. Openbox configuration Manager provides a simple tool to manage the appearance of the desktop. It provides theme, window decoration, window behavior with multiple monitors, moving and resizing windows, multiple desktops and other options. While this may seem like a lot, it is much easier than configuring KDE desktops.

3. LXDE has a powerful menu tool. There is an interesting option that you can access from the Advanced tab of the desktop menu. The name of this option is "Show the menu provided by the window manager when you click on the desktop." When this check box is selected, when you right-click the desktop, the Openbox desktop menu is displayed instead of the standard LXDE desktop menu.

The Openbox desktop menu contains almost all the menu options you want, all of which are easily accessible from the desktop. It includes all applications, system management and * items. It even has a menu that contains a list of all installed terminal emulator applications so that sysadmins can easily start.

4. Through the design, the LXDE desktop is very clean and simple. Although you can add something to the desktop in the form of files, directory folders, and application links, there are no widgets that can be added to the desktop. I like some widgets on the KDE and Cinnamon desktops, but they are easy to overwrite, and then I need to move or minimize the window, or use the Show Desktop button to clear the entire desktop. LXDE has a "Iconify all windows" button, which is convenient, but I rarely use it unless I want to see my wallpaper.

LXDE comes with a powerful file manager. LXDE's default file manager is PCManFM, so it becomes my file manager in the process of using LXDE. PCManFM is very flexible and can be configured to suit most people and situations, and it seems simpler than Krusader configuration.

PCManFM allows multiple tabs, which can be opened by right-clicking any item in the sidebar or by left-clicking a new tab icon in the icon bar. The location pane on the left side of the PCManFM window displays the application menu, which you can launch from PCManFM. The top half of the location pane also displays device icons that can be used to view physical storage devices, a list of removable devices, and allow installation or uninstallation. The bottom of the location panel contains shortcuts to some default directories (documents, music, pictures, videos, and downloads). You can also drag other directories to the shortcuts section of the location pane.

6. If the title bar of the new window opens behind the existing window, it flashes. This is a good way to locate new windows and a large number of existing windows.

Most modern desktop environments allow multiple desktops, and LXDE is no exception. I like to use one desktop for development, testing and writing, and the other for email and web browsing. By default, LXDE provides two desktops, but you can configure one or more. Right-click the desktop pager to configure. Through some seemingly destructive tests, I was able to determine that the number of desktops allowed to be configured was 100.

8. Xfce Power Manager is a powerful mini application that allows users to configure power management work. It provides tabs for general configuration and tabs for displaying systems and devices. The devices tab displays connected devices on the system, such as battery-powered mice, keyboards, and even UPS. It displays the details of each device, including the supplier and serial number (if available) and the battery charging status. As I write this article, my UPS is 100% charged and my Logitech mouse is 75% charged. The Xfce Power Manager also displays an icon in the system tray so that users can quickly read the battery status of the device.

I noticed that there was a "Reconfigure" option on the LXDE desktop (Openbox) menu. I clicked on it several times and didn't find out what it was for. However, this does not affect my love of LXDE, at least work with it without any hindrance, very smooth.
