Open × × server can be used with any WAN or multiple WAN, such as Open × × client. This tutorial only covers remote access to Open servers, but similar settings can be applied to site-to-site.

There are many different ways to configure remote access or site-to-site access to multiple WAN on pfSense using Open.

Open × × configuration

First, let Open work properly on the main WAN interface. Once it's working properly, make a backup, just in case.

Bind to the local host and set port forwarding

Multi-WAN needs to adjust the Open × × configuration so that it can be accessed from any WAN. The easiest way is to change the interface on the × × connection to Localhost, and then add a port forwarding on each WAN to redirect the Open × × port to the local host (127.0.0.1).

For example, if there are two WAN and the Open × × server is running on port 1194, set the interface to Localhost, and then add two more ports for forwarding:

WAN1-UDP, source *, destination WAN1 address port 1194, redirect destination 127.0.0.1 port 1194

WAN2-UDP, source *, destination WAN2 address port 1194, redirect destination 127.0.0.1 port 1194

Client configuration

You can add a second remote statement to the client's configuration file to use the second WAN, for example:

Remote x.x.x.x 1194 udp

Where x.x.x.x is the second WAN IP address or hostname.

You can use the Open × × client to export packages to automate this process. When exporting the client, select one of the following options in Hostname Resolution:

Automagic Multi-WAN IP (Port forwarding destination): add a remote statement of port forwarding location to the interface and port used by × ×, and use the IP address of each WAN as is.

Automagic Multi-WAN DDNS hostname (port forwarding destination): as described above, but use the first local dynamic DNS hostname of the specified WAN. If WAN is a private IP, this may be a better choice.

More than two WAN connections

You can repeat the same steps to add more WAN connections. Add port forwarding to any other WAN. If you add another WAN later, the client's configuration file must be updated accordingly.
