The company previously deployed an external PSC architecture, vCenter. Not long ago, in order to use full-featured HTML5 vSphere Client, vCenter and external PSC were upgraded to 6.7U1. I originally thought that the upgrade would be directly converted to embedded PSC architecture. I checked that the information could not be achieved in one step.

The adjustment process is as follows:

Prerequisites:

1. Download and mount vCenter Server Appliance 6.7 Update 1 ISO.

2. Create snapshots or backups of vCenter Server and external Platform Services Controller instances so that you can restore to snapshots if reconfiguration fails.

3. Disable and remove vCenter HA before starting the process.

Use the tool:

This fusion is performed using the vcsa-util command line utility. You can find the vcsa-util utility in the vcsa-converge-cli directory in VCSA ISO:

Linux 64-bit: lin64/vcsa-util

MasOS X:mac/vcsa-util

Windows:win32/vcsa-util.exe

Process:

1. Edit the converge.json and decommission_psc.json templates to contain information about managing ESXi hosts or vCenter Server and vCenter Server Appliance. For more information about these two files, please refer to:

2. Run the vcsa-util converge converge.json command on the target vCenter Server to start the convergence process of installing and configuring the new embedded Platform Services Controller. For a list of available parameters for the vsca-util converge command, see Fusion Command Syntax (https://docs.vmware.com/cn/VMware-vSphere/6.7/com.vmware.vcenter.install.doc/GUID-7E703CB3-C082-4ACE-ABFF-9A2CDA5DEC62.html#GUID-7E703CB3-C082-4ACE-ABFF-9A2CDA5DEC62).

Enter yes or no (if Platform Services Controller and vCenter Server are backed up).

2.2. The command provides the fingerprint of the certificate and requires you to accept it. Enter 1 to accept and continue.

After the utility completes successfully, you can log in to the vCenter Server Appliance device management interface (https://appliance-IP-address-or-FQDN:5480)), and you can see that it is now vCenter Server with an embedded Platform Services Controller deployment.

3. (optional) reconfigure any product deployed to an environment that uses external Platform Services Controller to use the newly deployed embedded Platform Services Controller.

Disassociate from the original PSC:

4. Run the vcsa-util decommission decomission.json command to unconfigure the original Platform Services Controller. This removes the external Platform Services Controller from the SSO domain.

The vcsa-util decommission utility uses the cmsso-util utility to unconfigure Platform Services Controller. If you unconfigure Platform Services Controller using cmsso-util, you must manually close Platform Services Controller before unregistering using cmsso-util. Note:

Security and replication issues may occur if you turn off Platform Services Controller before unconfiguring or if you do not use cmsso-util to manually unconfigure.

I have failed to use the tool vcsa-util to disassociate from the original PSC and failed to succeed: use cmsso-util to complete the process, as shown below:

1. Shutdown former PSC

2. Log in to the new PSC using root

3. Use the command to view all PSC in the domain

4. Execute the following command:

Cmsso-util unregister-node-pnid oldpsc.example.com-username administrator@vsphere.local-passwd P@ssw0rd

4. Check all the PSC in the domain again after the completion of step 3

5. Delete the old PSC
