GPD has officially announced Win Max 2. The new design includes a transition from an 8-inch screen to a 10.1-inch screen and features a new Intel Alder Lake mobile processor up to 14C/20T. It earned the nickname "Max" in a number of ways; you'll be able to purchase this portable device with up to 32GB of RAM and up to 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD in one of the two M.2 slots. All of this attractive hardware is housed in an aluminum-magnesium alloy unibody chassis.

The previous generation GPD Win Max features an 8-inch screen with 1,280 x 800 pixels. With Win Max 2, the screen jumps to a 1,920 x 1,200 pixel panel with a diagonal of 10.1 inches. GPD means retro gamers will love screen aspect ratios. We believe that the expansion in screen size helps differentiate the GPD from the affordable and highly acclaimed 7-inch Steam Deck portable PC console.

Although the screen size has changed significantly, the new model's screen size has only increased from 207 × 145 mm to 228 × 160 mm, GPD said. Helping to reduce the size is the "ultra-narrow border." Hong Kong-based small device experts chose not to reveal the thickness of the new Win Max 2 at this time, but said it was thinner. But judging from the basic sketch of the new device accompanying the blog post, it may not know the exact thickness yet.

Another major change to GPD Win Max 2 is the processor from Intel's new Alder Lake mobile lineup. GPD specifically mentioned the Intel Core i7- 1280P with 14 cores and 20 threads. The CPU can be upgraded to 4.80 GHz, has 24MB of intelligent cache, and consumes 20 and 64 watts, respectively.

Any non-cloud game on Win Max 2 requires an iGPU for the processor. Intel's Iris Xe graphics exist with 96 EUs running at frequencies up to 1.45 GHz. As gamers push for the highest TDP and CPU and iGPU on this gaming device, you may be concerned about thermal issues. GPD says the new laptop uses the same fans as Win 3,"ensuring heat dissipation and quietness." We're not sure if other processor options will eventually be available to buyers.
