Database management is a thorny problem for engineers everywhere, but it is not necessary. This is Google's view. At its annual Cloud Next conference in San Francisco today, it announced new products and services designed to simplify trading, operations, and analysis of data storage and data warehouse layouts.

Dominic prowse, Google's director of cloud product management, and Tobias Ternstrom, head of product management, wrote on their blog: "moving to the cloud doesn't necessarily mean restarting." At Google Cloud, we are committed to providing customers with the choice to operate enterprise workloads. "

First on the list is Microsoft SQL Server's cloud SQL, which will be launched later this year. If so, it will allow customers to bring existing local SQL Server workloads into Google's cloud platform (GCP) and run them in a fully managed database service that automatically handles backup, replication, patching, updates, and so on. It will retain existing applications and data and allow these applications to access GCP services such as BigQuery for analysis and artificial intelligence.

Also released today is CloudSQL for PostgreSQL Version 11, which includes excellent partitioning, stored procedures, and more parallelism. (last year, PostgreSQL in CloudSQL was widely used.) Starting this week, Google launched a wide range of Cloud Bigtable multi-area replication. Each cluster in the replication instance accepts reads and writes, and replication can be set up automatically by adding one or more clusters.

For those who are not familiar with it, Cloud Table is a key value of Google NoSQL and a wide-column database service designed for gigabyte workloads. Bigtable is its core, and Shanjing was described in detail in an academic paper in 2006. (Bigtable participates in Google's consumer-facing services such as Gmail and Google search.) It can basically be compared with Amazon's DynamoDB, Microsoft's Azure DocumentDB, IBM's Cloudant and so on. It has a larger and larger share in the whole database management system market. According to a report released by Allied Market Research, NoSQL services will generate revenues of $4.2 billion in 2020, and Forrester analysts expect the industry to grow by 25 per cent between 2015 and 2021.

Preuss and Ternstrom write, "No matter where your users are and how much data you have, you should be able to easily manage, move, and access data when needed." When you run a workload using managed database services, you can focus on what the data can do for your business, rather than the underlying infrastructure.

Finally, Google announced the launch of Cloud Dataflow SQL (the upcoming public alpha version), which allows developers to use SQL to build their own data flow pipeline, automatically detect the needs of batch or stream data processing, and flexibly schedule data flow resources (beta version). Provide preemptive resource pricing for batch jobs through scheduling flexibility.
