This article mainly introduces Linux how to deploy msmtp+mutt to send mail function, has a certain reference value, interested friends can refer to, I hope you can learn a lot after reading this article, the following let Xiaobian take you to understand.

I. Preface

It is usually easy for us to use Email, but Internet's mail system is connected by several complex parts. for end users, we are familiar with Outlook,Foxmail, which is used to receive and send mail, called MUA:Mail User Agent, mail user agent.

MUA does not send the message directly to the recipient, but through MTA:Mail Transfer Agent, the mail transfer agent delivers it, and Sendmail and Postfix play the role of MTA.

After a message is sent from MUA, it may be delivered through one or more MTA, and finally arrive at MDA:Mail Delivery Agent, mail delivery agent. After the mail arrives at MDA, it is stored in a file or a special database. We call this place where mail is kept for a long time as a mailbox.

Once the mail arrives in the mailbox, it will stay where it is, and wait for the user to pick it up through MUA, which is the process of receiving the mail with software such as Outlook,Foxmail.

So the flow of an email is:

From: MUA-send-> MTA-> several MTA... -> MTA-> MDA
