This article mainly introduces how to uninstall Ubuntu from Windows dual boot, the article is very detailed, has a certain reference value, interested friends must read it!
Safely uninstall Ubuntu from Windows 8 dual boot
It doesn't matter if you have Windows 8 installation media or if you have Windows 8.1 installed on your system. It works equally well. But I can't say the same on Windows 7. If you have a Windows installation disk with you, let's start the process of removing Ubuntu from Windows dual boot.
Removing Linux from dual boot is divided into two parts. *** Part of this is to delete the partition where the Linux installation is located. The second part is fixing Windows boot, because simply deleting Linux partitions causes a "Grub rescue" error.
*** Section: Deleting Linux partitions under Windows
*** Steps:
Log in to Windows. Press Windows+R and run the diskmgmt.msc command in it. It will open Windows Disk Management Tools.
Step 2:
After you install Linux, you can easily tell Linux partitions by size. Another tip for identifying Linux partitions is to look for partitions without file systems and drive labels. Windows partitions are usually labeled with labels, such as C, D, E, etc., and are usually NTFS or FAT file systems.
As you can see, I have three Linux partitions here because I created the root partition, swap partition and home directory separately when I installed Ubuntu.
Step 3: The third step:
Select the Linux partition, right-click and select the Delete Volume option.
If a warning appears, select Yes here.
Step 4: Step 4:
The deleted partition becomes an available free space. You can use it to expand an existing volume or create a new Windows partition. I would recommend creating a new drive (or volume or partition, whatever you want to call it), because it will be easier in case you want to double boot Linux and Winodws in the future.
Part 2: Fix Windows Boot Boot
Once you delete the Linux partition, it's time to fix Windows boot up. The image here may not look very clear because it is much easier to take a screenshot of the login screen under Ubuntu than Windows. I took these pictures with my cell phone camera.
*** Steps:
Insert Windows 8 installation media and restart your PC. Press F10 or F12 at boot time to enter BIOS/UEFI and select boot from removable disk.
Step 2:
Choose to repair your computer:
Step 3:
Select Troubleshooting here:
Step 4:
On the Troubleshooting page, select Advanced options:
Step 5:
Find the command prompt here:
Step 6:
Type the following command on the command line to repair Windows boot:
bootrec.exe /fixmbr
Normally, it takes effect immediately. You don't even have to wait.
Step 7:
Once this is done, restart your computer, this time booting normally from the hard drive. You should be able to boot into Windows. If you still see Grub rescue errors, try the following steps.
Step 8: If the method in step 6 does not work
If the commands in Step 6 don't work, try the automatic repair option in Advanced Troubleshooting.
It takes a while to find the problem and fix it.
Now if you reboot, you should be able to enter Windows normally and no longer see any Grub rescue error messages.
