But they didn't use the company's new 10-nanometer architecture. The biggest selling point of Intel's first-and tenth-generation Core processors is its new 10-nanometer architecture, the result of its long journey to shorten the production process. This is a more efficient design that can save power and improve performance. However, the next-generation tenth-generation chip, code-named Comet Lake, will not use this new technology. Instead, they are more powerful 14nm chips for heavy workloads in lightweight and lightweight machines.
This time, Intel finally brought a six-core / 12-thread chip to the U-series Core i7-10710U family. The processor will have the basic clock of 1.1GHz, the single-core speed of 4.7GHz and the full-core speed of 3.9GHz. With the next generation i7-10510U, you will get higher speed (1.1GHz basic; 4.9GHz single-core; 4.3GHz full-core Turbo), but only four cores and eight threads.
Intel says the i7-10710U is faster than last year's i7-8565U (the ninth generation of CPU focused on game laptops) 16 per cent faster than the efficiency and multitasking speed of Office 365. It's a big leap, but I'm not in a hurry to upgrade an one-year-old laptop. Although these chips are the 10th generation chips, it is not possible to obtain fast Iris Plus graphics cards on the first batch of 10nm 10 generation processors because of the 14nm production process.
As usual, U-series chips are suitable for mainstream ultra-portable laptops such as Dell XPS 13, while Y-series chips are aimed at lighter machines and two-in-one chips. These Y-series chips are getting stronger this year because every model except the i3 offers four cores, eight threads, and upgrades faster than the 4GHz. I always think the Y-series chips are a little too slow to use on the mainframe, but it may change this year.
All the new tenth-generation U and Y series chips will also provide faster memory interfaces than previous eighth-generation chips, with built-in Wi-Fi 6 connections and lightning 3 support. These are not life-changing upgrades, but they still provide some nice speed increases.
While it would be good to see these processors on Intel's 10-nanometer architecture, Ran Senderovitz, the company's mobile general manager, said at a media briefing that the technology was still in transition. In building its portfolio, Intel is more focused on providing the best technology to meet the needs of users. "customers don't care about nano-performance, they care about performance," he said.
Before the holiday, you can expect to see all the machines powered by Intel's tenth-generation core CPU, including MSI's Prestige lineup.
